Will Tottenham have it in them to block Borussia Dortmund in Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 1st leg? It tends to be all or nothing with Spurs this season. In 39 games across all competitions they’ve only draw 3 times, and even then one of those was an EFL Cup 3rd round tie against Watford that they eventually won on penalties.
They’re also outside title contenders. While it’d take a serious slip up from Man City or Liverpool, given they are on 60 points to the top 2’s 65, it isn’t unthinkable that Tottenham could sneak their way to the title with a fortunate run of form. With their next fixture not until February 23rd – one of the positives of being knocked out of the FA Cup by Crystal Palace – Spurs have no reason not to go all out on Wednesday. Or, rather, as all out as they can go without the injured Harry Kane and Dele Alli. Son Heung-min, who has been picking up the slack in Kane’s absence, sits at a Super Mega PGM of 35-41, trailed by Fernando Llorente at 27-32, and Lucas and Christian Eriksen, at 19-23 apiece. Comfortably ensconced at the top of the Bundesliga, 5 points ahead of the long-untoppled Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund are going to be formidable opponents on Wednesday night. Just thrice have they tasted defeat this season: November’s 2-0 loss at Atletico Madrid, December’s league slip-up at Fortuna Dusseldorf, and last week’s DFB-Pokal penalties-exit at the hands of Werder Bremen. Marco Reus and Paco Alcacer have been neck and neck all season, the former just nudging ahead of the latter thanks to his performances in the Cup. Nevertheless, the pair shares a Super Mega PGM of 21-26, with Maximilian Philipp at 14-18, Mario Gotze at 13-17 and Brit-abroad Jadon Sancho at 12-16. From a rocky start, with losses to Inter Milan and Barcelona, Spurs’ Champions League campaign has somewhat blossomed, the peak arguably being that knockout round-ensuring draw at the Nou Camp. Mauricio Pochettino won’t want it to end there – lucky, then, that Spreadex are offering a Tottenham/Borussia Dortmund Goal Supremacy spread of 0.25-0.45 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.75-2.95 and Bookings spread of 40-44.
