Following the recent cup distractions, the Premier League gets back to business this weekend with a couple of absolute belters! Sunday afternoon’s fixture is so juicy we might as well jump right to it. It’s the Special One versus the Normal One, as Manchester United host Liverpool at 4pm on Sky Sports 1. Following FA Cup and EFL Cup victories over Reading and Hull respectively United will be looking to make it 10 wins in a row this weekend, something that would more importantly cut the gap between Mourinho’s men and Liverpool down to just 2 points. With 13 goals Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be looking to overtake Diego Costa as the league’s top scorers, and heads in the weekend as a muscular Super Mega PGM of 43-50; Wayne Rooney, on the other hand, needs one goal to become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, but is at a middling spread of 16-20. While United breezed through their cup ties, Liverpool fumbled 2 relatively easy games; a patronisingly young team selection backfired for Klopp against Plymouth in the FA Cup, while they were outplayed at Southampton in their League Cup semi-final. Though they sit in 2nd momentum seems to be waning for the Reds, something Daniel Sturridge (at 19-23), Divock Origi (at 17-21) and Roberto Firmino (at 16-20) can help alleviate in the absence of Sadio Mane. The Portuguese manager has already called on United’s fan to make the difference on Sunday, and if Old Trafford can become as unwelcoming to visitors as it once was then the hosts may take all 3 points, with Spreadex offering a Manchester United/Liverpool Goal Supremacy spread of 0.3-0.5 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.45-2.65 and, crucially, a Bookings spread of 50-54. Though the rest of the week hasn’t got the same bite as that United/Liverpool match-up, there is still plenty to enjoy. Saturday kicks off with a visit from West Brom for Tottenham, at 12.30pm on Sky Sports 1. Spurs stand to benefit greatly if Liverpool lose on Sunday and they beat the Baggies. That situation would leave them in 2nd place, and would mark their 7th win in a row – a run that includes the record-preventing result against Chelsea and a comfortable victory over Aston Villa in the FA Cup. This upswing in form has been led by Dele Alli, who has scored 7 of his 10 league goals in the last 4 fixtures, including a brace against the Blues. Alli heads into Saturday at a Super Mega PGM of 33-39, with Harry Kane, also on 10 league goals, ahead of him at 61-71. As for West Brom, they’ve quietly become one of the league’s most reliable sides. The Baggies now sit in 8th place, and though they may have lost 5 games since mid-October all of those defeats were against top 6 opposition. Of course, that form doesn’t bode well for Saturday, and Spurs will feel confident about getting a result, with Spreadex offering a Tottenham/West Brom Goal Supremacy spread of 1.55-1.75 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.6-2.8. Arguably the weekend’s second biggest game then sees likely champions Chelsea travel to the current title holders Leicester on Saturday evening, at 5.30pm on BT Sport 1. Though they failed to break the record for consecutive wins after being thwarted by Tottenham, the Blues still have a 5 point lead at the top of the table, and breezed past Peterborough in the FA Cup at the weekend. They also have the league’s top scorer in Costa, whose 14 goals leaves him with a Super Mega PGM of 45-52. Leicester, meanwhile, are still just a couple of bad results away from being dragged into the relegation zone, though they are coming off a strong cup win over Everton. Without Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani, both of whom are at the African Cup of Nations, the Foxes may struggle to match the might of the visitors, leading Spreadex to offer a Chelsea/Leicester (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.8-1 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.6-2.8. Finally Sunday sees Everton attempt to repel the forward forces of Man City when the 2 sides meet at 1.30pm on Sky Sports 1. Though they are in 7th place there isn’t really much for the Toffees to do this season; they are already out of the FA Cup, while in the league it seems unlikely they will be able to make up the 9 point deficit that separates them and 6th place Man United. At least they have a new addition to show off this weekend. Morgan Schneiderlin reunites with his former Southampton boss Ronald Koeman after a failed stint at the aforementioned United, and will be hoping to make an immediate impact in his debut after rusting away on the bench at Old Trafford. Things may be better for their opponents, but there is still a sense of dissatisfaction around Man City at the moment. That may sound odd for a team in 4th place, but Pep Guardiola is used to total domination. There were signs of that last Friday, however, as City annihilated West Ham 5-0 in the FA Cup, with goals for Sergio Aguero, David Silva and even John Stones. Something similar could be on the cards on Sunday if City really get going, though Spreadex are slightly more reserved, offering a Manchester City/Everton (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.55-0.75 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.8-3.
