Will Liverpool lamp Bayern Munich and become the 4th English side to reach the Champions League quarter-finals? At the moment it can be hard to tell which Liverpool is going to turn up. Sometimes they run wild, like in Sunday’s 4-2 victory over Burnley or their end of February 5-0 dismantling of Watford. Yet for every big ticket win in 2019 there has been a draw at West Ham, or Everton, or Man United, or losses at Man City and Wolves. In fact, the Reds have only won once away from home this year, a frantic 4-3 squeaker against Crystal Palace.
Fortunately, a score draw would be enough to keep their European campaign alive. February’s stalemate at Anfield just about gives Liverpool the advantage, due to Bayern’s failure to secure a potentially tie-deciding away goal. Sadly for Jurgen Klopp and co., that goalless draw last month is very much an anomaly for the defending German champions. Since December 1st Bayern have lost once, drawn twice and won 13 times in all competitions, scoring 45 goals in the process. That’s been enough for them to just about ascend to the top of the Bundesliga for the first time in over 5 months, besting Borussia Dortmund on goal difference. In Robert Lewandowski they have the Champions League top scorer, the Polish forward on 8 games; expand that to all competitions and he is on 29 goals, leaving him with a Super Mega PGM of 43-50. In contrast, Mohamed Salah has 20 goals and a Super Mega PGM of 31-37. It is going to be hard for the Reds to complete a perfect quarter-final quarter of English teams, with Spreadex offering a Bayern Munich/Liverpool Goal Supremacy spread of 0.25-0.45, alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.65-2.85 and a Bookings spread of 50-54.
