Will the gloves be off when Yeovil take on Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup, at 7.45pm on Sky Sports Football? Having narrowly avoided relegation from League Two last season, Yeovil Town would have been hoping for a better start to 2018/19 than they’ve managed. They ended up losing their curtain raiser against Bury 1-0, an 89th minute goal from Gold Omotayo sinking the Glovers after they’d had to play the final quarter of the game with only 9 men thanks to both Thomas James and Jordan Green being dismissed within 13 minutes of each other. After that messy start, Yeovil’s 2nd fixture at home to Mansfield Town was a definite improvement, if not one without its flaws. Twice the Somerset side took the lead, in the 6th and 17th minutes, only for the Stags to equalise not soon after each time. Still, a more positive result, and one that saw the club pick up their first point of the season. Despite limited transfer action over the summer, Aston Villa are still fancied to be in the running for promotion from the Championship, with Spreadex offering a Season Points spread of 73-75, a price bested by only Middlesbrough (at 74.5-76.5) and Leeds (at 75-77). Villa’s result so far – and granted it’s early, early days yet – suggest as much. They looked good against Hull, beating the Tigers 3-1, before showing their resilience against Wigan, eventually securing a 3-2 victory 4 minutes into injury time. That kind of form should see them knockout Yeovil on Tuesday, though, granted, Steve Bruce is likely putting out a very different side, with Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, who sits at a Super Mega PGM of 34-40, hoping to get the nod over Jonathan Kodjia, at 40-47. Regardless, Spreadex are offering a fairly conclusive Aston Villa/Yeovil (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 1.05-1.25, alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.75-2.95.
