Will Wolves claim another top tier scalp when they travel to Man City, at 8pm on Sky Sports Premier League? Though they are currently lurking in the bottom half of the table – something that admittedly might change after Monday night – last season’s Championship champs have more than proved than can hang with the league’s big boys in 2018/19.
Back in August they held City to a 1-1 draw at Molineux, and then repeated the feat against Man United at Old Trafford in September and at Arsenal in November. December kicked off with a 2-1 win over Chelsea, and closed with a 3-1 victory at Tottenham. And most recently they hosted Premier League leaders Liverpool in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, beating an admittedly underpowered Reds 2-1 to set up a trip to either Stoke of Shrewsbury Town. Wolves have a job on their hands trying to keep City to just one goal this time out, however. After a very rough patch in mid-December, Pep Guardiola and co. have definitely got their swagger back. 2018 ended with a 3-1 win at Southampton, and 2019 began with a 2-1 triumph over Liverpool that kept their title hopes alive. While the standard of competition has to be taken into account, City then levelled up in their early January cup appearances. Guardiola was merciless against Rotherham in the FA Cup and Burton in the Carabao Cup, securing 7-0 and 9-0 wins respectively. Though the former contained 7 individual scorers, including an own goal from Semi Ajayi, Gabriel Jesus was the undoubted start of the latter batting, his 4 goals leaving him with a Super Mega PGm of 64-74. That price is only bested by Sergio Aguero who, at a massive 87-102, may make an appearance after missing the last couple of fixtures due to illness. The odds are once again stacked against Monday’s visitors. Spreadex are offering a Man City/Wolves Goal Supremacy spread of 2.1-2.3, alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.25-3.45. Those looking for another Wolves surprise, however, may be interested in the club at a 14/1 fixed odd price to escape the Etihad with all 3 points.
