Can England avoid a battering when Brazil roll up to Wembley on Tuesday night? Gareth Southgate’s depleted, inexperienced side – there were 5 debut caps handed out during the friendly – coped well with Friday’s visit from Germany (even if Joachim Loew hardly fielded his first XI himself). Though Jordan Pickford was involved quite a bit, England still managed to hold off the German frontline – not bad considering the world champions scored an eye-watering 43 goals in qualifying. England were less successful up front, severely missing the impact of the injured Harry Kane. Tabby Abraham, who sits at a Super Mega PGM of 12-16, missed an early chance, while Jesse Lingard fluffed his lines at the other end of the 90 minutes. In terms of Tuesday’s line-up, Southgate is set to further lower the average age of the team by including England Under-21s goalkeeper Angus Gunn, midfielder Lewis Cook and striker Dominic Solanake – who sits at a Super Mega PGM of 11-15 – in the squad. Gary Cahill, meanwhile, is back in the side after recovering from injury, just in time to cover for Phil Jones, who was forced off in the 24th minute against Germany. As for Brazil, they were the first country – other than hosts Russia – to qualify for the 2018 World Cup despite being part of the rock hard CONEMBOL qualifying campaign. They comfortably topped the region’s group, finishing 10 points ahead of 2nd place Uruguay, with 41 goals scored and only 11 conceded. Interestingly it wasn’t the world’s most expensive player Neymar who was their top scorer during that period, but Man City’s Gabriel Jesus, who had 7 goals to the PSG forward’s 6 (both men were on the scoresheet for Friday’s 3-1 friendly victory over Japan). Still, Neymar is Brazil’s most potent threat, at a Super Mega PGM of 40-47 to Jesus’ 31-37. Despite their 2014 semi-final debacle, Brazil are likely heading to Russia as favourites to win a record 6th title. Unsurprisingly that also gives them the edge on Tuesday, at a Brazil/England (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.65-0.85 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.55-2.75.
