The early exit of some of the competition’s biggest names means the FA Cup feels hugely open this season – but who exactly will reach the next round and, perhaps, Wembley?
Things kick off on Friday night, as Watford make the short trip to QPR at 7.45pm on BT Sport 2. Safely ensconced in the upper half of the Premier League table, but way off the top 6, the FA Cup could provide some much-needed excitement for the Hornets. QPR, meanwhile, have been saving their best form for the Cup. Without a Championship win in their last 7 games – including 5 consecutive losses – they’ve nevertheless beaten Leeds and Portsmouth. They’re likely to get stung on Friday, however, with Spreadex offering a Watford/QPR (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.6-0.8.
Saturday’s starter sees Brighton host Derby at 12.30pm on BT Sport 2. While the Seagulls have been dire in the league, picking up one win in their last 11 games, they’ve fought their way in the 5th round, a comfortable 3-1 win at Bournemouth followed by an extra time victory in their replay at West Brom. Derby, currently chasing a place in the Championship play-offs, knocked out Southampton on penalties before scraping past Accrington Stanley. The hosts, then, have the edge at a Brighton/Derby Goal Supremacy spread of 0.55-0.75.
The only untelevised 5th round fixture, Wimbledon take on Millwall at 3pm. They may be stuck at the bottom of League One, but the Dons have looked good in the Cup, a 4 game winning streak that recently culminated in a 4-2 victory over West Ham. As for the Lions, they snatched victory against Everton in the 4th round and are expected to progress on Saturday, with Spreadex offering a Millwall/Wimbledon Goal Supremacy spread of 0.4-0.6.
Securing a big-time visit from Man City, Newport could be in for an absolute mauling at 5.30pm on BT Sport 2. The lowest ranked side left in the competition, the Exiles have been on a tear, besting Leicester and Middlesbrough in the last 2 rounds. City are another proposition altogether, however, and given the league-leaders have scored 12 goals in their 2 Cup appearances the hosts should brace themselves. Spreadex are offering a Man City/Newport (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 3.05-3.25 alongside a Total Goals spread of 4.05-4.35.
Moving onto Sunday and Bristol look to stop 2018/19’s Premier League surprise Wolves at 1pm on BT Sport 2. One of those sides eyeing the Championship play-offs, Bristol are in incredible form; they haven’t lost in 15 fixtures, and have won every game they’ve played since 29th December. Still, the visitors knocked out Liverpool in the 3rd round, and sit at a Wolves/Bristol City (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.5-0.7.
It’s a trip westward for Brentford, as they clash with Swansea at 4pm on BBC One Wales. Neither side has been really tested in the competition so far; the Swans beat Aston Villa and Gillingham, while the Bees bested Oxford United and Barnet. That makes Sunday’s game a tough one to call, with Spreadex offering a choice Swansea/Brentford Goal Supremacy spread of -0.1-0.1.
Finally, Crystal Palace look to dump out Doncaster at 4pm on BBC One. Lurking at the bottom end of League One’s play-off zone, the Rovers are yet to face top-tier competition in the FA Cup this season. That, in theory at least, changes on Sunday, when they face a Palace who, league troubles aside, did beat Tottenham to get here. That confidence-booster should see the visitors triumph this weekend, with Spreadex offering a Crystal Palace/Doncaster (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.9-1.1.
