Is an all-Manchester final already guaranteed, or will this weekend’s FA Cup throw up a few surprises? Kicking the cup fixtures off on Saturday, Watford look to sting Crystal Palace, at 12.15pm on BT Sport 2. Though they’ve regularly been battered by teams above them, the Hornets have done a good job of keeping in the top 10. They’re also yet to concede in the Cup this season, beating Woking, Newcastle and QPR, all away from home.
Palace, meanwhile, are lurking in the bottom half of the table, 5 points above the drop. Yet despite their lacklustre league form, they managed one of the biggest surprises of the Cup so far, knocking out Tottenham with a 2-0 win in the 4th round. It could be close, but the hosts have the edge, at a Watford/Crystal Palace Goal Supremacy spread of 0.1-0.3. Swansea then might struggle to keep their head above water on Saturday afternoon, as they host Man City at 5.20pm on BT Sport 2. City put in yet another monstrous performance mid-week, emphatically beating Schalke 7-0. That echoes their run in the FA Cup, with the Premier League leaders scoring 16 goals in just 3 fixtures. Sergio Aguero may even be aiming to cross the 30 goal mark – he has 27 so far – and sits at a Super Mega PGM of 91-106.
Considering the Swans are in the bottom half of the Championship, they have plenty to be worried about heading into the weekend, especially since they are yet to play a top flight side in the Cup. Spreadex are offering a rather conclusive Man City/Swansea (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 2.45-2.65, alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.5-3.7. Heading into Saturday evening, Wolves will need to be more bite than bark when they face Man United, at 7.55pm on BBC One. After that magical night in Paris, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suffered his first domestic slip-up last weekend, Arsenal getting revenge for their 4th round FA Cup exit with a 2-0 win at the Emirates. Still, United have been very good in the Cup, that victory over the Gunners followed by a 2-0 win at Chelsea.
Wolves, one of the season’s biggest Premier League surprises, claimed a scalp early, knocking out Liverpool in the 3rd round. They’ve looked less convincing since then, however, requiring a replay against Shrewsbury, before narrowly getting past Bristol City. Saturday’s going to be tough, with Spreadex offering a Man United/Wolves (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.1-0.3. Finally, as the lowest ranked side left in the competition, Millwall will be aiming for an upset as they battle Brighton, at 2pm on BBC One. Flirting with Championship relegation, the Lions appear to have saved their best form for the FA Cup, beating Hull, Everton and Wimbledon en route to the quarter-finals.
The Seagulls, who aren’t having the best time in the league, have performed adequately in the Cup. A 3-1 win against Bournemouth was followed by an extra-time victory against West Brom in their replay at the Hawthorns. In the 5th round, meanwhile, they bested Derby 2-1. They should progress on Sunday, at a Brighton/Millwall (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.25-0.45.
