Can Wayne Rooney score for England one final time in Thursday’s warm-up against the USA, at 8pm on Sky Sports Main Event? Despite being a precursor to their final Nationals League game this Sunday, this evening’s Wembley friendly feels more throwaway than most. That might be due to the inclusion of Rooney, who is set to take the captaincy off Fabian Delph in the 2nd half when he comes on to collect his 120 international cap, and hopefully further his lead at the top of England’s all-time goal scorers table. The DC United forwards heads to Wembley with a Super Mega PGM spread of 22-27, a price he shares with Bournemouth’s debuting Callum Wilson. Marcus Rashford – who nabbed one of the goals in England’s impressive 3-2 victory in Spain in mid-October – is then at 25-30, while Harry Kane, whose last goal for Gareth Southgate came in the World Cup last-16 tie against Colombia, is at 37-43. As for the USA, they’d love to get one over England on Thursday. Whether they have the quality to do so, however, is a different matter entirely. In their last 6 friendlies they’ve only won once, a 1-0 victory over Mexico in Nashville. It says it all that Werder Bremen’s 18-year old Josh Sargent – who scored in their last game, a 1-1 draw against Peru – is their best shot going forwards at a paltry Super Mega PGM of 8-11. Another added quirk to the fixture is that it’ll be played at roughly the same time as Spain’s trip to Croatia, one that could see the winner of League A’s Group 1 decided before England even get to have another go at the beaten World Cup finalists this weekend. Still, they shouldn’t have too many issues on Thursday night, with Spreadex offering an England/USA Goal Supremacy spread of 1.3-1.5 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.7-2.9.
