Can England find something, anything, to liven up their Nations League campaign when they travel to Spain at 7.45pm on Sky Sports Main Event? After the heady heights of the World Cup, UEFA’s new competition has been a bit of comedown for Gareth Southgate’s boys. Their curtain raiser saw a bright start against Spain at Wembley ruined 2 minutes later, with the visitors then going on to have a 2-1 victory sewn up by the half hour mark. Last Friday’s 0-0 draw was even less eventful, a suitably forgettable 0-0 played behind closed doors in Croatia. In contrast, Spain have shown what could have been over the summer if it weren’t for their managerial switcheroo just before the World Cup began. Their fairly basic 2-1 win over England was followed by a huge 6-0 romp against Croatia, remarkable given the latter had reached the World Cup final just a few months previous. They showed no signs of slowing down in a friendly against Wales, either, coming away from Cardiff with a 4-1 victory. Though he was the competition’s top scorer in Russia, Harry Kane hasn’t scored in his past 6 appearances for England; nevertheless he remains the country’s best chance upfront, with the Tottenham star at a Super Mega PGM of 20-24, followed by Marcus Rashford at 10-14. As for Spain, it is difficult to even pick a favourite going forwards given their wealth of attacking options. Paco Alcacer, who scored twice against Wales, is at a Super Mega PGM of 31-37, as is Rodrigo, the man who nabbed the winner at Wembley. Iago Aspas, meanwhile, is at 27-32, with Marcos Asensio, Sergio Ramos and Suso at 16-20 apiece. Yet all of those are beaten by Alvaro Morata, who has a Super Mega PGM of 36-42 despite being one of the few Spanish players not to get on the scoresheet in the last 3 games. If Southgate and co. want to stand any chance of reaching the Nations League play-offs, then they really need a win on Monday. That’s going to be a tough task, however, with Spreadex offering a troublesome Spain/England Goal Supremacy spread of 0.9-1.1 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.55-2.75.
