After the first proper week of European football will there be some tired Premier League legs out there this weekend? Not that the Champions and Europa League fixtures have much bearing on Friday’s game, a bottom half battle between Bournemouth and Brighton at 8pm. It’s been a case of sour Cherries so far this season. They’ve lost 4 league games on the trot, with avoidable defeats against West Brom and Watford followed by slightly more predictable results against Man City and Arsenal. If they’re to overturn this run then Eddie Howe could really do with Jermain Defoe, who sits at a Super Mega PGM of 32-38, tapping into the kind of form he produced for Sunderland last year. As for Brighton – who face Bournemouth again in the EFL Cup on Tuesday – they picked up their first ever Premier League win last weekend, a 3-1 romp against West Brom. That’s the latest sign of resilience from the Seagulls; it took City until late into the 2nd half of their season opener to break them down, and while Leicester rolled them over they managed a goalless draw at Watford. Still, the pressure’s mounting at Dean Court, with Spreadex offering a Bournemouth/Brighton Goal Supremacy spread of 0.3-0.5 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.45-2.65. Saturday morning then sees Roy Hodgson’s first game in charge at Crystal Palace, who host Southampton at 12.30pm. While Eddie Howe has enough goodwill to keep him in a job, Frank de Boer wasn’t quite as fortunate. Part of that’s due to the teams Palace have lost against. A 1-0 defeat to Liverpool is excusable; losing to Huddersfield, Swansea and Burnley, and failing to score while doing so, isn’t. In steps Hodgson, last seen shepherding England to Euros-ignominy against Iceland – what could go wrong? While not quite as bad as Palace, Southampton haven’t looked particularly inspiring themselves. Their only notable result was a last minute 3-2 win over West Ham; elsewhere they’ve produced goalless draws against Swansea and Huddersfield, and most recently a 2-0 loss to Watford. The Saints are, however, in a better shape behind the scenes, leaving them with a Southampton/Crystal Palace (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0-0.2 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.2-2.4. Turning to the afternoon and Tottenham will look to secure their first domestic Wembley win when they face Swansea at 5.30pm. A 3-1 Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund is certainly one way for Spurs to answer their Wembley critics, even if the evening was slightly tainted by Jan Vertonghen’s red card. Now they just need to produce that kind of result in the league, where their home form has seriously let them down. Harry Kane seems to have gotten over his initial shyness, at least, banging in 4 goals in his last 2 games to leave him with a whopping Super Mega PGM of 95-100. After the hope-filled end to last season’s nightmare Swansea might be a bit disappointed that they’ve somewhat stumbled out of the gates. Their only win is over the woeful Palace, with a goalless draw against Southampton joined by a 4-0 hammering by Man United and a 1-0 loss to Newcastle. And while, like Spurs, they have been better on the road than at home, their trip to Wembley might be too great a test, with Spreadex offering a Tottenahm/Swansea Goal Supremacy spread of 1.85-2.05 alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.1-3.3. Sunday arguably has the weekend’s biggest games, kicking off with a London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal at 1.30pm. The Blues have done a pretty good job of overcoming their Burnley wobble. After that opening loss Chelsea came away from a tricky string of fixtures – with a visit from Everton sandwiched between trips to Tottenham and Leicester – with all 9 points. They then went and absolutely battered Qarabag in the Champions League, a 6-0 victory that involved 6 different scores (admittedly, one of them was from the Azerbaijani side). As for Arsenal, their start to the season has been very, well...Arsenal. They’ve racked up 2 wins and 2 losses in the league, including that 4-0 embarrassment at Anfield, and almost had a shock against Koln on Thursday before securing a 3-1 win in the 2nd half. Alexis Sanchez – who sits at a Super Mega PGM of 18-22 – was instrumental to that recovery, in his first appearance since the summer’s transfer drama. If the Gunners are to stand a chance of coming away from Stamford Bridge with anything he needs to be at his best – and even then the visitors may struggle, Spreadex offering a Chelsea/Arsenal Goal Supremacy spread of 0.7-0.9 with a Total Goals spread of 3-3.2. Finally Everton try and recover from their Europa League nightmare by picking up a result against Manchester United, at 4pm. The Toffees were humiliated on Thursday. Despite facing a team that had never been in Europe they were outclassed, going 3-0 down in the 1st half. It seems already the side is suffering from fatigue – Sunday’s game is their 10th of the season, with a Premier League schedule that, including the trip to Old Trafford, has seen Everton already face 4 of 2016/17’s top 6. And now they have to endure 90 minutes of being reminded what they lost when they sold Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian, who has a Super Mega PGM of 59-69, has been instrumental to Man United’s fantastic start, scoring 6 goals in 6 games across 3 competitions (that’s 1 less than Everton have managed in total). That kind of form has helped United to the top of the table, and on Wednesday to an easy 3-0 Champions League win over FC Basel. It’s hard to see the hosts having too much trouble this weekend, with Spreadex offering a Man United/Everton Goal Supremacy spread of 1.45-1.65 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.75-2.95.
