Can Ireland get revenge for their Cardiff collapse when they host Wales in the Nations League, at 7.45pm on Sky Sports Football? Aiming to elevated to the upper echelons of UEFA’s latest competition, the Welsh returned to competitive football after a World Cup-less summer with a fiery performance. They battered the Irish 4-1 in their Nations League-opener, with goals from Thomas Lawrence, Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Connor Roberts. Yet that result now seems like a bit of a flash in the pan. They came away from Denmark with a 2-0 loss courtesy of a brace from Christian Eriksen, before suffering a spanking at the hands of Spain, who beat Wales 4-1 at the Millennium Stadium in last Thursday’s friendly. Ireland have hardly been any better. Since losing in Cardiff, they have drawn 1-1 with Poland in a friendly in Wroclaw, before holding the Danes to a goalless stalemate in Dublin. That leaves Martin O’Neill’s boys on 1 point to Wales’ 3 and Denmark’s 4, meaning it is all still to play for in League B’s Group 4. In terms of Tuesday’s fixture, Wales are missing their big hitters, with Bale and Ramsey out for muscle fatigue and family reasons respectively. That leaves Sam Vokes as their best shot up front, the Burnley striker at a Super Mega PGM of 14-18. As for Ireland, Southampton’s Shane Long is at 20-24, followed by James McClean at 9-12 and Jeff Hendrick’s 8-11. Given the absence of the visitors’ 2 truly world class players, Tuesday’s game could be tight, with Spreadex offering a Republic of Ireland/Wales Goal Supremacy spread of 0.15-0.35 alongside a Total Goals spread of 1.75-1.95.
