Can Norwich keep up their push for automatic promotion when they host Birmingham on Friday? For the first time since the end of October, the Canaries are out of the Championship top 2, held at bay by Sheffield United’s superior goal difference and Leeds’ 4 point lead. They haven’t won a game in their last 4 fixtures – 5 if you include their 3rd round FA Cup exit at the hands of Portsmouth – with draws against Nottingham Forest, Brentford and West Brom, and a last minute 4-3 loss to Derby, as 2018 turned into 2019.
While Norwich have been great going forwards – they trail only the Baggies in terms of goals scored – at the back they’ve looked weak, conceding 35. That’s the joint worst of the top 6 – interestingly an honour they share with West Brom – and noticeably cost them against Forest and Derby. Still, as mentioned, they are a bit tasty up front. Teemu Pukki is chasing the Championship Golden Boot with 15 goals in 24 appearances, and sits at a Super Mega PGM of 37-43, with Jordan Rhodes, who has 9 goals in all competitions, at 31-37. Though they’re in 8th, Birmingham’s own promotion-chase isn’t over just yet. Sat 4 points behind Derby in 6th, it wouldn’t take a whole lot to see them climb into the play-off zone – not bad given that they spent the early part of the season at the bottom of the table. If they are to do so, however, then they need to get back on the horse. 2018 ended with a goalless draw at home to Brentford, while the New Year opened with a 1-1 stalemate at Sheffield Wednesday. The Blues then went on to lose to West Ham in the FA Cup and Middlesbrough in the Championship, the latter a missed opportunity to take some points off a potential play-off rival. Looking to reclaim their spot in the top 2, the hosts will fancy their chances on Friday, with Spreadex offering a Norwich/Birmingham Goal Supremacy spread of 0.55-0.75 alongside a Total Goal spread of 2.55-2.75, and a Bookings spread of 38-42.
