The Premier League has saved the best til last this week, with Liverpool hosting Manchester United at 8pm on Sky Sports 1. Though their start hasn’t been perfect, there is an electricity around Liverpool at the moment that, despite it being early in the season, has placed them as one of the frontrunners in the title race. There first 3 games didn’t necessarily suggest that would be the case: an erratic 4-3 victory over Arsenal was followed by a woeful away loss to Burnley and a milquetoast draw against Tottenham. However, a rampant 4-1 win over current champions Leicester saw everything click into place for Jurgen Klopp’s men, and since then they have looked unstoppable. A 2-1 win over Chelsea flattered the London club, while 5-1 and 2-1 victories over Hull and Swansea cemented the side as having one of the season’s best attacking line-ups. Interestingly Liverpool have managed 18 league goals – and a further 8 in the EFL Cup – without Daniel Sturridge being at his best. The England forward, who heads into Monday night at a Super Mega PGM of 23-28, has only found the back of the net twice, both coming against Burton Albion in the Cup. In contrast James Milner, at 9-12, has 4 in the league, joined by Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho, all on 3 apiece and at Super Mega PGMs of 18-22, 16-20 and 14-18 respectively. While Klopp pushes for his first English championship his more experienced counterpart has found life at Manchester United slightly more taxing. Despite the millions (and millions and millions) spent over the summer United have still lurked in the shadow of their ostensibly title-chasing peers, leaving them in the increasingly familiar position of 7th place. A trio of September losses saw the club at its worst, slipping to defeat to Man City, Watford and Feyenoord in the Europa League, with arguably only one of those results forgivable. Yet there have been flashes of brilliance. Like Liverpool United dismantled Leicester, with Paul Pogba finally coming alive in that 4-1 thrashing. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has continued to prove his worth with 6 goals in all comps, and heads to Anfield at a Super Mega PGM of 25-30, while Marcus Rashford keeps pushing for Rooney’s starting spot, and has a Super Mega PGM of 15-19. As for the England captain, his domestic season has been just as uninspiring as his international showing, leaving him with a reduced spread of 10-14. A substantial win would potentially put Liverpool top of the table, and leave Manchester United stuck on the outskirts of the title race. With that in mind Spreadex are offering a Liverpool/Man United Goal Supremacy spread of 0.2-0.4 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.55-2.75.
