It’s time to head to Angus, Scotland for the 2018 Open Championship, the 3rd major of the season! Unsurprisingly, PGA world no. 1 Dustin Johnson is favourite to come out of the weekend victorious, at a fixed odds price of 10/1 alongside a Leaderboard Index spread of 11-14. That’s where 1st place gets 80 points, 2nd place 40, 3rd place 30 and 4th place 25 etc. Johnson hasn’t been at his best on the tour. He only has 2 titles this season, January’s Sentry Tournament of Champions and June’s FedEx St Jude classic, and has disappointed at the majors, tied for 10th at the Masters before slipping to 3rd at the US Open. Next is Justin Rose, who’s at 16/1 with a Leaderboard Index spread of 8-11. Rose picked up victories at the WGC-HSBC Champions last October and May’s Fort Worth Invitational; in terms of the Majors, he was tied for 10th at the US Open, but was cut after the 2nd round at the Masters. Both with Leaderboard Index spreads of 7.5-9.5, Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy also share a fixed odds price of 18/1. Fowler was the runner-up at the Masters back in April, while McIlroy was tied for 5th, but with both missing out on the top 10 at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in June. 23-year old Spaniard Jon Rahm, who broke into the world top 5 this year, is also at 18/1 with a Leaderboard Index of 7.5-9.5, despite his best finish at The Open being when he tied for 44th in 2017. Last year’s winner Jordan Spieth has a Leaderboard Index spread of 6.5-8.5, while 2018 US Open champion Brooks Koepka is at the same 6-8 spread as Tiger Woods, the latter chasing his first major victory since 2008. Interestingly Woods beast those players on the fixed odds front, at 20/1 to Spieth and Koepka’s 22/1. As for some of the other former Open Championship winners, Henrik Stenson is at a Leaderboard Index spread of 4-6, with Phil Mickelson at 3-5. 2018 Masters victor Patrick Reed, meanwhile, is also at 4-6, with a fixed odds price of 33/1.
