How seriously will Leicester and Liverpool take the EFL Cup when they meet on Tuesday evening? The high point of their 4-0 win over Arsenal aside, Liverpool can be pretty disappointed with the start to the season. They dropped points to Watford in their first game, could only scrape a 1-1 draw against Burnley this weekend AND suffered that 5-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City. They were also frustrated in last week’s Champions League visit from Sevilla. While a draw against the most successful side in the history of the Europa League isn’t a bad result, per se, the fact that the game involved Roberto Firmino missing a penalty AND an injury time second yellow for Joe Gomez tainted the point. At least things seem to be going pretty well up front. Mohamed Salah – the Reds’ flagship summer signing – has 5 goals in all competitions, and a Super Mega PGM of 28-33while Firmino is at 31-37. And with Philippe Coutinho, who has a Super Mega PGM of 21-26, making his first domestic appearance on Saturday after the will he/won’t he transfer saga, Jurgen Klopp has his top choice attacking line-up back in play. Though there are plenty of issues for the Anfield lot, compared to Leicester they’re having a fantastic time of it. The Foxes have lost 3 of their 5 league games – admittedly to Arsenal (who they ran close), Man United and Chelsea – winning against Brighton, but drawing against Huddersfield. They were in better form in their 2nd round EFL Cup fixture at Sheffield United, where a brace from Islam Slimani (who has a Super Mega PGM of 22-27) helping them to a 4-1 victory. In a scheduling quirk, the two sides follow up their mid-week cup tie with a Premier League face-off, once again at the King Power Stadium, on Saturday. The visitors are expected to win the first of these back-to-back meetings, at a Liverpool/Leicester (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.4-0.6 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.9-3.1.
