Who will win Group H in the 2022 World Cup?

Group H will feature a fierce battle between Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal, 1930 & 1950 winners Uruguay, 2002 semi-finalists South Korea and 2010 quarter-finalists Ghana. All of these sides will likely fancy their chances of progression from the group, and it remains to be seen who will acclimatise quickest and easiest.

Portugal do have a formidable looking squad on paper, and will begin as betting favourites in the group, but Uruguay are always a danger at World Cups, South Korea will be reliant on Spurs' Heung-min Son for inspiration, and Ghana will be looking to build on their recent performances as a strong representative of African football.

In our final group preview before the big kick-off in Qatar on Sunday, we look at the latest betting odds for Group H!

WHAT ARE THE WORLD CUP BETTING ODDS ON PORTUGAL IN GROUP H?

Surprisingly, this is only Portugal's eighth appearance at a World Cup after failing to qualify between 1934 and 1962 and then 1990-1998. Their best performance was a third-place finish in England's glorious 1966 campaign, while 2006 saw them finish in fourth position (in what was Cristiano Ronaldo's first World Cup).

Since then, Ronaldo has developed into arguably the greatest player of all time but has failed to be able to inspire his side beyond the round of 16 at any World Cup. A group stage exit in 2014 compounded the disappointment, while 2018 featured a 2-1 defeat in the round of 16 to one of their key rivals here - Uruguay. Can the Portuguese get revenge here? In terms of the betting odds, Portugal are available with an opening spread of 16.5 - 18 on the Group H index, and on the fixed odds at 4/6 to win the group, and 2/11 to qualify or 15/4 not to qualify. In terms of their chances of winning a first World Cup, their outright odds put them at 14/1 on the fixed odds, with a spread of 24 - 27.

It is undoubted who will be the key attacking focal point for the side, and although Ronaldo's club season has been full of disappointment and controversy so far this season, he is still the leading goalscorer in international football history with 117 goals in 191 caps. Ronaldo is available at 14/1 to be the tournament's top goalscorer. Can Ronaldo prove that class is permanent, even at the age of 37? On the Highest Team Scoring Index market, Portugal are available at 8 - 11. In this market, the top scoring nation will have a market settlement of 100, with the second-highest settling at 50 and third-highest at 25.

WHAT ARE THE WORLD CUP BETTING ODDS ON URUGUAY IN GROUP H?

The group's second favourites are the South Americans Uruguay, who are two-time winners of the trophy. They have also finished in fourth place on three occasions, the last time in 2010. They have only exited at the group stage on three occasions in 13 previous appearances and will be confident of avoiding that fate here. The Uruguayans lost just one of their five matches in 2018 (four wins), and this was to the eventual champions France in the quarter-finals.

In terms of the betting odds ahead of their group campaign here, Uruguay are available with an opening spread of 12 - 13.5 on the Group H index, and on the fixed odds at 15/8 to win the group, and 2/5 to qualify or 15/8 not to qualify. In terms of their chances of winning a third World Cup, their outright odds put them at 40/1 on the fixed odds, with a spread of 15 - 18. They will have to produce something very special though to win a first in 72 years.

In terms of goalscorers, it will be interesting to see Uruguay's mix of youth and experience up front as Luis Suarez is expected to line-up alongside current Liverpool man Darwin Nunez. Suarez's TGM are at 65 - 75, and Tournament Goals are at 1.3 - 1.5. For Nunez, TGMs stand at 50 - 60 with Tournament Goals at 1 - 1.2. Will they have a similar impact to Edinson Cavani and Diego Forlan back in 2010?

WHAT ARE THE WORLD CUP BETTING ODDS ON SOUTH KOREA IN GROUP H?

The Asian representation in the group will come in the form of South Korea, who famously produced a shock in 2018 when they beat defending champions Germany in the group stages. They will certainly be dangerous in their own right with Spurs' Heung-min Son leading the line, but whether the rest of the team is good enough for a sustained run remains to be seen. Since reaching the semi-finals as co-hosts in 2002, they have had three group stage exits and a round-of-16 appearance.

South Korea come into the tournament with a Group H index spread of 5 - 6.5, just ahead of Ghana as third-favourites, and on the fixed odds at 17/2 to top the group, and 9/4 to qualify and 1/3 to not qualify. In the 2018 World Cup, they only managed to score three goals in three matches. Can they score more here? Their Tournament Group Goals spread is available at 4.35 - 4.55.

On our team group markets, the South Koreans are available on the Team Group Points Won market at 2.9 - 3,1. Would you buy or sell?

WHAT ARE THE WORLD CUP BETTING ODDS ON GHANA IN GROUP H?

And finally, group H's outsiders will be the African representatives Ghana, and one of their opponents here will bring back particularly painful memories. That is of course Uruguay, who defeated them in extra-time in the quarter-finals, in what were hugely controversial circumstances. Deep into extra-time, Luis Suarez stopped a goalbound effort with his hands and was subsequently sent off. Ghana missed the penalty that ensued and proceeded to lose in the penalty shootout that followed.

In terms of the betting odds, Ghana are the fourth-favourites with a Group Index spread of 4 - 5.5, and on the fixed odds at 12/1 to win Group H, 3/1 to qualify and 1/4 not to qualify. In their last appearance back in 2014, they exited in the group stages and scored just twice. They are available on the fixed odds at 12/1 to be the lowest scoring team in the competition.

Can the Ghanaians produce another memorable run and be the most successful African team here?
