2023/24 Championship Betting Preview Week 2

betting-preview-landing-page-header

Norwich, Blackburn, and Watford were our winning partner clubs last weekend, but with no ‘Spreadex derbies’ this weekend in the second tier there is the small chance (818/1!) that we could be celebrating a clean sweep of wins at Spreadex towers come Saturday teatime.

ROTHERHAM v BLACKBURN ROVERS, SATURDAY 3PM

Rotherham suffered an opening day defeat against Stoke City and things could be tricky for the Millers this weekend when they welcome one of our partner clubs Blackburn to South Yorkshire. Rovers got there season off to a flyer with a 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion at Ewood Park and they are 7/5 favourites on Saturday with the hosts 2/1 and the draw available at 12/5.

In the spread betting markets Blackburn find themselves 0.1-0.3 favourites on the Supremacy spread and with both sides seeing their opening fixture feature three goals or more, there may well be some interest for buyers in the Total Goals spread at 2.45-2.65.

CARDIFF CITY v QPR, SATURDAY 3PM

Cardiff City got their season off to a decent start last Sunday when they drew 2-2 with Leeds in front of the Sky Sports cameras. The Bluebirds, having gone 2-0 up, will have been disappointed to concede a 94th minute equaliser, but it is certainly a point they would have taken before kisk-off.

They face QPR, who were on the end of a 4-0 shellacking from Watford last weekend, on Saturday and are a shade of odds on to get all three points at 19/20. The visitors are 3/1 to bounce back with a win whilst the draw is 5/2.

QPR conceded in the very first minute last weekend and the spread on the 1st Match Goal minute is 37-40. The R’s were pretty woeful as they mustered one shot on target against Watford and they face a Cardiff side who defended pretty well in the face of a Leeds onslaught, limiting the Yorkshire outfit to speculative efforts.

BTTS no can be backed at 5/6 whilst there will certainly be some Welsh interest in a Cardiff win to nil which is priced up at 11/5.

WATFORD v PLYMOUTH, SATURDAY 3PM

We turn our attentions to Watford now who will be thrilled if they can repeat their exploits against QPR when they welcome Plymouth Argyle to Vicarage Road. Argyle are well known for their free flowing football and having won 3-1 against Huddersfield last time out, there could well be goals in this one.

Over 2.5 goals is priced at 4/5, over 3.5 goals is at 2/1 and you can back both sides to score is available to back at 8/11. If you prefer a spread betting approach you can buy or sell Total Goals at 2.65-2.85 whilst Total Goal Minutes is 135-145.

Finally, in the match odds market, Watford are 8/11, Plymouth are 15/4 and you can back the draw at 29/10.

SOUTHAMPTON V NORWICH CITY, SATURDAY 3PM

Norwich City make the trek down to the south coast this weekend where they will be 16/5 outsiders for their clash with Southampton. The hosts returned to Championship life with a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday in South Yorkshire and they are 87/100 to get the job done this weekend with the draw at 11/4.

Both of these sides hit late winners last week and with the much-publicised change to additional minutes this season there will be interest with Total Goal Minutes at 133-143 and Total Goals at 2.6-2.8 in our spread betting markets.

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN v LEICESTER CITY, SATURDAY 3PM

Leicester City secured a win from behind against Midlands rivals Coventry last weekend but they will be hoping to make lighter work of it against Huddersfield who have shipped three goals in both of their matches this season.

City are 3/4 to win on Saturday but there may well be some interest in the handicap lines with Leicester -1 at 2/1 and Leicester -2 at 5/1. If you prefer a similar bet but from a spread betting angle, the Foxes are favoured on the Supremacy spread at 0.65-0.85.

Despite looking defensively porous so far, Town have managed to score across league and cup this season and both teams to score at the John Smith’s Stadium is 4/6 whilst over 2.5 goals will be 8/11.

PRESTON v SUNDERLAND, SATURDAY 3PM

Principal partners Sunderland will be looking to bounce back from opening weekend defeat against Ipswich this weekend when they travel to Deepdale on Saturday.

Our traders have this as one of the tightest matches to call in the league this weekend with Preston 7/4, the draw at 5/2 and Sunderland very narrow favourites at 8/5. New signing Luis Hemir Semedo has been boosted to score anytime for the visitors at 2/1 from 17/10 whilst Will Keane – whose father Roy had a spell in charge at Sunderland – is 6/4 from 13/10 to hit the back of the net.

For spread betting punters Shirt Numbers can be played at 37-40 whilst there will no doubt be interest in the Bookings spread is 54-58 with the EFL clamping down on dissent.

WEST BROWMICH ALBION v SWANSEA, SATURDAY 3PM

Our final match of the week involving a Spreadex side is at The Hawthorns where West Bromwich Albion play host to Swansea City. The Welsh side lost manager Russell Martin to Southampton in pre-season and they managed a 1-1 draw away to Birmingham before following it up with a 3-0 win over Northampton in the League Cup.

The Swans are fancied to have their wings clipped on Saturday with West Browm a touch over even money at 21/20, the draw is 5/2 and an away win is 13/5. Total Goals is 2.55-2.75 whilst spread punters can also play our Goals Cubed spread which is priced at 39-45.
