With Christmas done and dusted, attentions in the second tier will begin turning to the business end of the season, with Leeds United currently 2/7 favourites in our Championship outright odds.
The Whites established a three-point lead at the top of the league over the Christmas period, but a few of our partner clubs are well in the mix towards the top of the league, and we preview all of the action in today’s betting blog.
The biggest game in the second tier this weekend comes from Ewood Park as second place Burnley travel to a Blackburn side who are only outside the top six on goal difference.
One of the fiercest rivalries in English football, it is the visitors whop have been made favourites tomorrow with Scott Parker’s side 6/5 to claim all three points. Blackburn are without a win in four matches, but they earned a battling draw at Elland Road on New Year’s Day and they won’t be without their backers at 12/5. The draw is priced up at 2/1.
In terms of boosted bets, Burnley’s Dutch dynamo Zian Fleming is 14/5 from 23/10 to score tomorrow with a 1-0 win for the Clarets 6/1 from 11/2.
Also in lunchtime action tomorrow are partner club West Bromwich Albion who occupy the final play-off spot as they head to South Wales this season.
In a quirk of fate, it is Swans boss Luke Williams who is being touted to take the hotseat at the Hawthorns following the departure of Carlos Corberan to Valencia. Chris Brunt is the interim manager at the moment and the Northern Irishman steered his charges to a 3-1 win away at Preston in the week.
The Baggies are 9/5 to win this weekend, with the draw at 9/4 and a home win available to back at 6/4. Josh Maja has scored just under 40% of all West Brom league goals this season and the former Sunderland man is 21/10 from 9/5 to add to the brace he scored against Preston.
Goals could be the order of the day when Coventry travel to partner club Norwich this weekend and you can buy or sell our Total Goals Football spread betting market at 133-143.
Both sides will feel they have a chance to make a late charge for the play-offs, but with 21 games remaining in an ever-competitive division, they need to start stringing results together soon.
In terms of the 1X2 betting, Norwich are favourites for this clash at Carrow Road having been priced at 7/5, the draw is 23/10 and an away win can be backed at 15/8.
Three wins from three over the festive period gave Oxford United some much-needed breathing space, but it is partner club Preston North End who have been made odds-on favourites when the pair meet at Deepdale.
Our traders make the Lilywhites a 5/6 poke to get what would be a third win on four matches with an Oxford win priced at 17/5 and the draw at 12/5.
Three of Preston’s last four matches have seen at least three goals scored and you can buy or sell Total Goals at 2.3-2.5.
After a slow start to the season, Sheffield Wednesday have hauled themselves up to within three points of a play-off spot and the Owls will fancy their chances of overcoming Millwall at a price of 23/20.
Our partner club in the capital have appointed Alex Neil who takes his fourth job at this level and the Scotsman will be looking to make an immediate impact. His Lions side are 13/5 to win with the draw priced up at 2/1.
There is no doubt that Sheffield United are one of the best sides in the league, but with the Blades currently in the midst of an injury crisis, this might be the best time for partner club Watford to play them.
Three defeats in four matches have seen the Hornets slip out of the play-offs, but a win at 15/8 against a title-chasing Sheffield United would be just the boost that Tom Cleverley’s side need.
The Yorkshire outfit are now winless in three and they have slipped to 21/20 in our Championship promotion odds, but you can back Chris Wilder’s side to get back to winning ways this weekend at a price of 21/20.
Pompey fans have to make one of the longest journeys in the EFL this weekend when they travel to Sunderland, a side who are themselves 11/8 for promotion.
The Black Cats have had a turnaround in form recently to reignite their top two challenge and a win over Sheffield United on New Year’s Day certainly underlined their credentials.
With Pompey hovering above the relegation zone, no-one is a shorter price in the second tier than the 4/9 available about a Sunderland win. The Mackems prevailed 3-1 when the sides met on the south coast earlier this season and a Sunderland win with both sides scoring is priced up at 21/20.
