2024/25 Championship Betting Preview Week 36

landing-page-cship-blog

It is all systems go this weekend in the Championship with the sides in the second tier gearing up for what could be a transformative week or so with a midweek round of fixtures pencilled in.

The race for the play-offs is particularly interesting from an online betting perspective and plenty of our partner clubs are in the top six mix.

With just one ‘Spreadex derby’ this weekend, we have previewed seven matches featuring our partner clubs, starting with an evening clash in East Anglia.

NORWICH CITY v OXFORD UNITED, FRIDAY 8PM

Partner club Norwich – currently 5/1 to make the top six in our Championship odds – are out for revenge this evening as they host Oxford United in front of the Sky Sports cameras this evening.

Oxford beat Norwich 2-0 on the opening weekend of the season, but Gary Rowett’s side are on a run of five defeats from seven and still need a few more points to get them out of the relegation frame.

This evening’s match sees the Canaries priced up at 1/2 with the league’s joint-top scorer Borja Sainz boosted from 31/20 to 9/5 to hit the back of the net this evening.

WATFORD v MILLWALL, SATURDAY 12:30PM

Watford are a point and a place better off than Norwich, but they are as big as 12/2 to make the top six and the Hornets host Millwall in an all-partner club affair tomorrow lunchtime.

Tom Cleverley’s side have kept three clean sheets on the spin as they collected seven points to keep themselves in the play-off hunt. A fourth consecutive clean sheet for Watford would be their best sun since late 2022 and you can back them to win to nil at 5/2.

In the 1X2 market, Watford are 13/10, the draw is 19/10 and a Millwall win is chalked up at 9/4.

DERBY COUNTY v BLACKBURN ROVERS, SATURDAY 3PM

Derby boss John Eustace will be looking to avoid becoming the first Rams manager to lose their opening four matches in charge. His three games in the hotseat have yielded no points and no goals with Rovers fans desperate to put the boot in the man who left Ewood Park in acrimonious circumstances last month.

Rovers are another one of our partner clubs in the play-off picture and Valerien Ismail’s need to kick on towards the end of the season if they are to end their 13-year Premier League absence. Our football betting traders have little to split the teams this weekend with Derby priced up at 7/4, Blackburn at 13/8 and the draw available to back at 2/1.

In our football spread betting markets, Total Goals can be traded at 2.15-2.35 while the Total Goal Minutes spread is set at 108-118.

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE v SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY, SATURDAY 3PM

Sheffield Wednesday’s longest away trip of the season should yield a positive result, with the Owls even money to swoop down and claim all three points at Plymouth.

The South Yorkshire side were 4-0 winners over Argyle on the first weekend of the season and despite losing their last three matches, they will be confident of success this weekend. There has not been much of a new manager bounce for Bosnian boss Miron Muslic, with his Plymouth side six points adrift of safety going into the weekend.

Both the draw and a home win have been priced up at 5/2 ahead of this clash and you can get a 4-0 win for Wednesday at a chunky 28/1.

PRESTON NORTH END v SHEFFIELD UNITED, SATURDAY 3PM

Sheffield United are enjoying an impressive season on their return to the second tier and they are well placed to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

The Blades trail their Yorkshire rivals and league leaders Leeds by two points, so hopes are not high for partner club Preston who travel to Bramall Lane this weekend.

The Lancashire side are in the midst of a four-game winless spell and they are 17/4 to snap out of that run against a side who have won 12 of their 17 home league matches this season. Another home win for the Blades is available to back at 8/13 and with Leeds playing on Sunday, they can go top of the league on Saturday evening should they collect three points.

Former Sheffield United gaffer Paul Heckingbottom is in charge at North End and that adds an extra element of spice to a match which has United as 0.75-0.95 on our Supremacy football spread betting market.

SUNDERLAND v CARDIFF CITY, SATURDAY 3PM

There are seven matches in the Championship this weekend to feature an odds-on shot in the win market and Sunderland are amongst the shortest with the Black Cats priced at 1/2 to beat Cardiff City.

Our principal partners responded with a win last Friday night over Sheffield Wednesday after back-to-back defeats saw them drop out of the race for the top two. Regis Le Bris’ side are now 13/8 in our Championship promotion odds, but they should have no problems dealing with a Cardiff side who are just one place outside of the relegation zone.

Both sides have hit the back of the net in four of Cardiff’s last five matches and you can back BTTS in this one at even money. We have boosted Wilson Isidor from 23/20 to 11/8 to score with a fourfold on the top four winning paying just under 5/1 thanks to our acca boost offer.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION v QPR, SATURDAY 3PM

With just one defeat in their last five matches, partner club West Brom are pushing hard for the play-offs and Tony Mowbray’s side are 11/10 to make the top six following a 1-1 draw against Leeds last time out.

The Baggies are another side to be odds-on to win this weekend with the Hawthorns outfit priced up at 8/11 to overcome a side who have won just four on the road this season. A good run of form towards the end of January lifted QPR to the top half with the play-offs a real possibility.

However, a run of five defeats in their last seven matches put a stop to those lofty ambitions and the Rs are 15/4 to bloody the noses of West Brom this weekend.
