2024/25 Championship Betting Preview Week 45

landing-page-cship-blog

After a topsy-turvy Easter weekend, we know that Leeds (3/10 in our Championship outright odds) and Burnley (9/4) will be playing Premier League football next season. Outside of that, it is all to play for, with just one match featuring two sides who are guaranteed to be playing second tier football next season.

On what could be a crucial weekend, we have previewed all of the matches involving our partner clubs in this week’s betting blog.

BLACKBURN ROVERS v WATFORD, SATURDAY 3PM

Blackburn still have the faintest whiff of making the play-offs, but they will need to record maximum points this weekend – and hope results elsewhere go their way – when they host Watford in an all-partner club affair.

Both of these sides have occupied the top six at points this season, but a three game winning streak looks to have come too late for Rovers who are 12/1 in our top six finish odds.

In the match odds market, Blackburn are 8/11, the draw is priced at 5/1 and Watford are 15/4 to complete their fourth league double over the Ewood Park outfit.

CARDIFF CITY v WEST BROMWICH ALBION, SATURDAY 3PM

Another partner club who have fallen out of the top six mix are West Brom, but there will be plenty on the line this weekend when they travel to South Wales. Cardiff are one of many sides who fins themselves in the relegation battle with the Bluebirds three points from safety and with a significantly worse goal difference than their near rivals.

The Baggies travel to Cardiff without a win in 14 matches on the road and they have never gone 15 without a win outside the top flight before. A precious three points for Cardiff is available to back at 13/10, with the draw priced at 21/10 and an away win at 11/5.

Just one of Cardiff’s last six matches has featured three or more goals. You can trade Total Goals at 2.35-2.55 in this crucial clash.

MIDDLESBROUGH v NORWICH CITY, SATURDAY 3PM

Jack Wilshere takes charge of partner club Norwich this weekend after they dispensed with the services of Danish coach Johannes Hoff Thorup. The Canaries travel to Teesside to face a Middlesbrough side who look set to finish just outside the play-offs for a second year running.

Boro, with four wins from their last five at home, sit three points behind sixth-placed Coventry and Michael Carrick’s side are 2/1 to make the top six.

As for this weekend, Norwich conceded eight goals over the Easter weekend and you can buy or sell Total Boro Goals at 2.05-2.25 with Total Goal Minutes available to trade at 157-167.

MILLWALL v SWANSEA CITY, SATURDAY 3PM

Millwall’s 3-1 win over Norwich on Monday kept them in the promotion hunt, but a goal difference of -1 does not help their chances of gatecrashing the play-offs. The Lions have had a mixed bag of a season but have found their feet in the run in and they are 6/5 to overcome a Swansea side with nothing to play for.

Millwall have not done a league double over Swansea since the mid-1980s and if they are to change that this weekend, Mihailo Ivanovic will be key. The Serbian striker has hit six goals in his last seven matches and he could be one to look at in our Player Goals Minutes football spread betting market.

OXFORD UNITED v SUNDERLAND, SATURDAY 3PM

It has been a funny end to the season for our principal partners Sunderland who have been nailed on for the play-offs for quite some time now. Their top two challenge faltered away, but they have been comfortably amongst the ‘best of the rest’.

The Black Cats travel to Oxford this weekend looking for a spark of form before the play-offs, with Regis Le Bris’ side 9/4 in our Championship promotion odds. The Mackems – priced at 13/10 for the win - face an Oxford side who are three points above the drop zone this weekend.

The Us impressive home form has fallen away in the last month or so and the hosts are 21/10 to secure three points with the draw available to back at 21/10.

PRESTON NORTH END v PLYMOUTH ARGYLE, SATURDAY 3PM

There wouldn’t have been many punters who picked five of the bottom six winning last week and Miron Muslic’s side will certainly feel a pang of disappointment that wins over Coventry and Sheffield United still leave them rooted to the table.

They need a positive result on their travels to partner club this weekend if they are to prolong their battle to avoid the drop and they are 7/2 to get another three points. A draw at 13/5 wouldn’t be the end of the world for Argyle, but a home win at 8/11 would spell the end for the Devonshire side thanks to their inferior goal difference.

Both sides have hit the back of the net in four of Plymouth’s last five matches and you can back BTTS at Deepdale at 4/5.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY v PORTSMOUTH, SATURDAY 3PM

Seven points collected from their last three games has seen Portsmouth climb above the relegation scramble and they will be delighted that there is nothing on the line heading into the last few games of the season.

Pompey travel to Hillsborough this weekend to face partner club Sheffield Wednesday where off pitch shenanigans are taking up more headlines than performances on the pitch. It is the only match this weekend where both participants know that they will be definitely playing Championship football this weekend, and as such it is a hard one to read.

Portsmouth, with 11 defeats in 13 away matches, have had their difficulties on their travels this term and they are 12/5 to get three points this weekend. Sheffield Wednesday meanwhile have just one home win in five and Hillsborough is unlikely to be in a buoyant mood this weekend with protests planned against the ownership. The Owls are even money to win with the draw chalked up at 5/2.
