Can Tottenham keep themselves in the running for the Champions League last 16 with a victory over Monaco, at 7.45pm on BT Sport 2? While they are the only side yet to lose a game in the Premier League, in Europe Tottenham have seriously struggled. Losses to Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen, a goalless draw against the German side and a narrow 1-0 win over CKSA Moscow leaves Spurs with just 4 points. To make matters worse, their 2 defeats have come at Wembley, their European relocation looking rather hubristic in hindsight. Tottenham’s position in the Champions League now stands on a knife-edge; if they fail to win in France, and Bayer beat their Russian opponents, then the North London will be out of the competition at near enough the earliest point possible. Part of Spurs’ problem in Europe (and, indeed, domestically) has been their inefficiencies up front. In 4 Champions League games they have scored only twice, one of those goals coming from injured defender Toby Alderweireld. Son Heung-Min has been their best attacking option, his 5 goals in all competitions giving him a Super Mega PGM of 17-21. Pochettino will also be hoping that Harry Kane’s late brace at the weekend will lead to better things from the youngster, who heads into Tuesday night at 37-43. In contrast Monaco are overflowing with options going forwards. In just 13 Ligue 1 games the French side have scored 39 goals, more than any major side in Europe, with 7 more in the Champions League. Amazingly Radamel Falcao – with 5 goals domestically, 4 in Europe and a Super Mega PGM of 25-30 – has already scored more in 11 games than he did in 36 Premier League appearances for Man United and Chelsea. It shows the strength of Monaco’s attack that their second top scorer this season with 7 goals is a defender, Fabinho; nevertheless he still has a small spread of 9-12. The deliriously delicious nature of the French side’s attack might be too much for this often pedestrian Spurs side, though our traders have found it too tough to call, with Spreadex offering a choice Monaco/Tottenham Goal Supremacy spread of -0.1-0.1 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.5-2.7. Leicester, meanwhile, only need a point from their last 2 games to ensure a spot in the Champions League last 16; they take on Club Brugge at 7.45pm on BT Sport 3. The Foxes 3 Champions League wins (and one draw) means they have been victorious the same amount of times in Europe as they have been in 12 Premier League fixtures. Part of that has been by design – Leicester have lost all 4 of their domestic games preceding their European ties, a confirmation, if needed, of where Ranieri and co.’s attention lies. Riyad Mahrez, who has a Super Mega PGM of 28-33 has been at the heart of their European adventure, scoring 3 of their 5 goals; to call Jamie Vardy, at 30-36, a shadow of his former self, on the other hand, would be an insult to shadows. Perhaps the most remarkable part of their European run is that Leicester are yet to concede a goal; in the league, on the other hand, only a handful of teams have let in more. Given that they beat their Belgian opponents 3-0 in their opener and that Brugge have scored just once in 4 games, the Foxes likely have nothing to worry about on Tuesday, with Spreadex offering a Leicester/Club Brugge Goal Supremacy spread of 0.75-0.95 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.55-2.75.
