Sports Blog 23/12/2014: Horse Racing Preview – King George VI Chase

The ten horses in competition include some of horse racing’s recent stars, including last year’s winner Silviniaco Conti, runner-up Cue Card and third place Al Ferof.

Silviniaco Conti, ridden by Noel Fehily, won the Betfair Chase in November and comes into the race favourite at fixed odds betting of 9/4. The former stable mate of King George VI Chase record holder Kauto Star, who won 5 times between 2006 and 2011, beat Menorah (in 8/1 for King George) by two lengths at the Betfair Chase in November, and will be hoping to continue to build steam for Cheltenham, where it finished fourth last year.

King George VI Chase Odds

Despite the presence of Amlin Chase winner Al Ferof, at 6/1, and last year’s King George runner-up Cue Card, at 7/1, relatively new upstart Champagne Fever is second favourite to win at 10/3. Boxing Day is Fever’s debut at Kempton, and is the only Irish hope in the 2014 race. Winning 7 of his 13 races, Champagne Fever is expected to perform well this Christmas, even though he is unproven over this chase’s 3 mile distance.

With Spreadex fixed odds betting available now, you will also be able to use our spread betting quotes on the day of the race. Due to this race only having 10 competitors, our 50-25-10 index applies. This means 50 points for the winning horse, 25 for the runner-up and 10 for third place. So if Spreadex has a spread of 12-15 on a horse, a £3 stake a 15 would give you £105 if the horse won ((50-15) x £3 = £15). However, if this horse came in third, you would have a £15 loss ((10-15) x £3 = -£15).

Our Spreadex clients are fancying a battle between Silviniaco Conti and Champagne Fever; however with high-performing horses like Dynaste potentially overpriced at 17/2, 2014’s King George VI Chase could be anyone’s.
