Will England seal the series when they host South Africa for their 2nd T20 match at the County Ground in Taunton? Eoin Morgan’s boys absolutely smashed Wednesday’s meeting at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. South Africa won the toss and chose to bat, only to suffer an immediate shock as England took a wicket with their very first ball, David Willey bowling out JJ Smuts. Mark Wood made it 2 wickets in 2 overs after dismissing Reeza Hendricks with his own first ball, before repeating the trick against David Miller at the open of the 5th over. Despite strong showings from AB de Villiers and Farhaan Behardien the damage was done, and the Proteas finished up with just 143-3. Champions Trophy flop Jason Roy was first to step up to the crease for England, managing a respectable 28 runs before succumbing to an lbw off Andile Phehlukwayo. Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales – who head to Taunton with Player Performance spreads of 34-38 and 36-40 respectively – then romped England to the finish line, ending up with 60 and 47 not out respectively to leave the hosts with a 9 wicket victory. That’s a huge boost in confidence for England after the disappointment of their Champions Trophy semi-final slump against eventual winners Pakistan, a result made all the sweeter for the fact that the likes of Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali were rested. Morgan will be looking for a similarly muscular performance on Friday evening, one that would set England up nicely for the summer Tests against South Africa and the West Indies. Our Spreadex traders are more cautious, however, offering an England/South Africa Supremacy spread of 7-15 (where a point is awarded for each run, or 10 for each wicket, a match is won by).
