After faltering (admittedly to varying degrees) can Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham get their respective seasons back on track this weekend? Things kick-off on Saturday afternoon with a clash of sort-of titans, as Manchester United take on Leicester at 12.30pm on Sky Sports 1. Having just about stalled their slump with a rickety win over Northampton in the EFL Cup, United will be hoping for a more convincing victory when they host the current champions. Questions remain over whether or not Wayne Rooney (at a Super Mega PGM of 20-24) should be selected; there will be less ambiguity over Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s starting spot, the Swede’s 4 league goals leaving him with a Super Mega PGM of 43-50. The Foxes themselves have had a scattershot start to the season, and have clearly missed the presence of N’Golo Kante. Their 2 losses in 5 league games is only 1 less than they managed for the entirety of 2015/16, while during the week they exited the EFL Cup at the hands of Chelsea (though they did take the game to extra time). There are positives, however, namely the addition Islam Slimani, who bedded in quickly to nab a brace in his debut against Burnley, leaving him with a Super Mega PGM of 14-18. It looks like the strength United have in their misfiring arsenal, and the weakness the Foxes have shown against bigger sides, should give the home side the edge, with Spreadex offering a Manchester United/Leicester Goal Supremacy spread of 0.7-0.9 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.6-2.8. The sangfroid Frenchman then takes on the fiery Italian on Saturday evening, with Arsenal hosting Chelsea at 5.30pm on BT Sport 1. After a shonky start Arsenal have built up a head of steam in recent weeks, with impressive wins over Watford, Southampton and Hull in the league complimented by a Champions League draw against PSG and a hammering of Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. With Olivier Giroud (who has a Super Mega PGM of 28-34) potentially injured, Saturday’s game might be a big one for Lucas Perez. The Spaniard, who has a Super Mega PGM of 24-29, opened his Arsenal account in the EFL Cup mid-week, and could woo the sceptical contingent of the Gunners’ fandom with couple of goals against the Blues. Chelsea, meanwhile, are reflecting the pattern set out by Man United, a faultless start followed by a couple of disappointing results including a Friday night defeat to Liverpool. They did beat Leicester in the EFL Cup, however, with the out of favour Cesc Fabregas scoring twice in extra time. The brutish Diego Costa is likely going to be the one to watch at the weekend, not only because his 5 goals are the joint top tally in the Premier League so far but because the Spaniard has been a thorn in Arsenal’s side before, meaning he heads into the London derby at a Super Mega PGM of 27-32. This is easily the biggest game of the weekend, made even more intriguing given the fact it is the 20th anniversary of Wenger’s tenure at the club, and despite their ability to fluff their lines the Gunners may just take all 3 points, Spreadex offering an Arsenal/Chelsea Goal Supremacy spread of 0.15-0.35 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.75-2.95. Of all the sides in the Premier League you could make a pretty convincing case for West Ham having had the most disappointing start to the new season; they host Southampton on Sunday at 4pm on Sky Sports 1. Since failing to qualify for the Europa League things have only got worse for the Hammers; 4 losses and 1 win, with 13 goals conceded, is a dismal open to their Premier League campaign, especially since at this point last season they had beaten Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City. Even a mid-week win over Accrington Stanley was an embarrassment, it taking a 96th minute strike from Dimitri Payet (who has a Super Mega PGM of 14-18) to rescue a result. The one true bright spot for Slaven Bilic has been Michael Antonio, who is the Premier League’s joint top scorer with 5 goals in 5 games and has a Super Mega PGM of 12-16. To be fair to West Ham, Southampton have hardly set the world alight since the new season began either. It took 5 games for Claude Puel to get his first league win in charge of the Saints, with draws against Watford and Sunderland and losses to Man United and Arsenal preceding their 1-0 victory over Swansea. Outside of the league things have been a bit better, with a 3-0 dismantling of Sparta Prague in the Europa League joined by a 2-0 win against Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup. Though initially ignored by Puel, Charlie Austin has quickly become one of the best parts of the Saints side, his 4 goals in 6 games giving him a Super Mega PGM of 31-37. Given how bad both sides have looked at times Sunday’s game is incredibly difficult to call, with our Spreadex traders offering a choice West Ham/Southampton Goal Supremacy spread of -0.1-0.1 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.5-2.7.
