Will Jose Mourinho win his first proper piece of Manchester United silverware with an EFL Cup victory over Southampton on Sunday, at 4.30pm on Sky Sports 1? United have been in pretty good form of late, with only one loss (against Hull in the 2nd leg of their EFL Cup semi-final) since the start of November – that run hasn’t been of much use in the league, where they sit stubbornly in 6th place, but it has kept them in the FA Cup, Europa League and taken them to this Sunday’s EFL Cup final. In that time Zlatan Ibrahimovic has continued to prove himself to be an absolute killer, the Big Swede now having scored 24 goals in all competitions this season (remember he is 35, 4 years older than Wayne Rooney, who is set to be shuffled out of the club due to being somewhat past it). As for the Saints, they’ve really lost their mojo since 2016 wrapped up, losing 6 of their last 8 league games before being hammered 5-0 by Arsenal in the FA Cup. The EFL Cup has proven a lone bright spot in those times, a run that has seen them beat the Gunners and Liverpool on their route to Wembley. It looks like they might come unstuck on Sunday, however, with Spreadex offering a Manchester United/Southampton Goal Supremacy spread of 0.6-0.8 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.25-2.45. Thanks to the EFL Cup it is somewhat of an abbreviated weekend of Premier League football, though given recent events Sunday’s games especially will be fascinating. As for Saturday’s televised fixture, there isn’t much to say about West Ham’s trip to Watford, at 5.30pm on BT Sport 2. Things have improved for the Hammers since the New Year began, leaving them in 10th place in the league, though in amidst that progress have been some laughably bad performances against both Man City and Man United. Watford are 2 points behind West Ham in 13th place, and have been incredibly inconsistent in the last few months (though they did manage to beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates). There isn’t much between the two sides, with the hosts having a narrow advantage at a Watford/West Ham Goal Supremacy spread of 0-0.2 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.5-2.7. Finally early Sunday afternoon then sees a humiliated Tottenham take on Stoke, at 1.30pm on Sky Sports 1. As if any more evidence was needed, Thursday night proved that Spurs made a mistake in playing their European games at Wembley. Having lost to Gent 1-0 in Belgium, Tottenham went into their Europa League 2nd leg with an ostensibly easy deficit to overcome. Yet the game ended 2-2, and came complete with the ignominies of a Harry Kane own goal and a Dele Alli red card. That result sees Spurs in the middle of a mini-slump, with just 1 win in their last 4 games. If they are to push for 2nd place they need to wake-up on Sunday and make sure they don’t underestimate Stoke. Returning to White Hart Lane should help, with Spreadex offering a Tottenham/Stoke Goal Supremacy spread of 1.25-1.45 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.9-3.1.
