Can David Moyes lift West Ham out of the relegation zone with his first home game in charge, a visit from Leicester at 8pm this Friday? Moyes’ debut as manager went about as well as expected. The Hammers slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Watford, a result that marked not only their 7th loss of the season, but saw them overtake the likes of Crystal Palace and Everton to become the league’s worst defence, with 25 goals conceded in 12 games. Andy Carroll – who has a Super Mega PGM of 21-26 – was especially laughable, exiting just after the hour mark to chants of ‘you’re not fit to wear the shirt’. While they’re in 12th place to West Ham’s 18th, only 4 points separate Leicester from Friday’s hosts, with the Foxes only picking up 3 wins in 12 games. Jamie Vardy, at a Super Mega PGM of 27-32, has also been worryingly inconsistent; he may have 6 league goals, but only one of those has come since the end of September. With Moyes looking to impress this evening’s fixture is too close to call, leading to a choice West Ham/Leicester Goal Supremacy spread of -0.1-0.1 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.45-2.65. Turning to Saturday and we have the weekend’s biggest game, as Liverpool host Chelsea at 5.30pm. The Reds’ mid-week trip to Sevilla encapsulated what’s being going wrong with Liverpool this season. At half-time they were 3-0 up, thanks to a brace from Roberto Firmino and a goal from Sadio Mane. By the end of the game, however, they came away with just a point, the killer being a 93rd minute equaliser from Guido Pizarro. It’s this ludicrous gulf between attack and defence that sees Liverpool with 24 goals scored in the league – only behind City and United – but 17 conceded. Chelsea will be looking to exploit Liverpool’s frailties at the back when they travel to Anfield. The Blues are coming off a 4-0 victory against West Brom in the league and a last-16 securing 4-0 thrashing of Qarabag in the Champions League, with Alvaro Morata (at a Super Mega PGM of 30-36) and, especially, Eden Hazard (at 20-24) in fine form. Yet on their day the Reds can beat anyone – and Antonio Conte’s side are far from infallible – with Spreadex offering a Liverpool/Chelsea Goal Supremacy spread of 0.3-0.5 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.9-3.1. Early Sunday afternoon then sees a bottom half of the table scrap between Southampton and Everton at 1.30pm. It’s not fun to be a Toffees fan at the moment. Yet to find a permanent manager despite it being almost exactly a month since Ronald Koeman was given the boot, the latest ignominy was a 5-1 humiliation at the hands of Atalanta that was made all the worse by the fact that a) the game didn’t matter as Everton were already out of the Europa League, and b) caretaker David Unsworth had nevertheless fielded a strong side. As for Southampton, they have plenty for themselves to worry about. They’re only one point ahead of Everton are losing their last 2 games to Burnley and Liverpool, and are really struggling up front, with just 8 goals in 12 games. Still, at least they have a permanent manager – for now, at least – and sit at a Southampton/Everton Goal Supremacy spread of 0.55-0.75 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.25-2.45. Finally Manchester City look to extend their unbeaten streak when they travel to Huddersfield at 4pm. City weren’t exactly at their monstrous best against Feyenoord on Tuesday; yet thanks top scorer Raheem Sterling – who has as a Super Mega PGM of 35-41 to Gabriel Jesus’ 69-79 and Sergio Aguero’s 79-91 – they still managed to steal a 1-0 win in the final few minutes of the game. That not only means they are guaranteed to top their Champions League group, but that they are yet to lose a game in all competitions this season. Huddersfield, then, should be worried. For Premier League debutantes the Terriers aren’t doing too badly at all; they’re in 10th place on 15 points, and even managed to beat Man United back in October. Yet they have a tendency to be overwhelmed – in all 5 of their league losses this season they’ve failed to score, with 3 of those defeats being by 3 goals or more. That’s the kind of situation the hosts could find themselves in on Sunday, with Spreadex offering a Man City/Huddersfield Goal Supremacy spread of 2.1-2.3 alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.3-3.5.
