Can Man United find a bit of peace away from their already tense Premier League campaign when they host Derby in the EFL Cup 3rd round on Tuesday? There are, of course, teams doing far worse than Jose Mourinho’s Man United. Yet, as tends to be the case when the no-longer Special One has been in charge for a while, the environment at Old Trafford doesn’t seem particularly pleasant at the moment. The club is already 8 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, have conceded as many goals as they have scored, and, among other things, are dealing with a misfiring Alexis Sanchez up front. Beyond all that, however, it is Paul Pogba who has been dominating headlines. The World Cup winner drew a lot of heat following last weekend’s 1-1 result against Wolves, with the Frenchman publicly criticising the club’s tactics after reportedly being slammed by Mourinho for giving away possession in the run to their opponent’s equaliser. Yet for all the headlines he is still United’s joint top scorer alongside Romelu Lukaku – admittedly 3 of Pogba’s 4 goals have been penalties – with the former at a Super Mega PGM of 33-39 to the latter’s 57-67. As for Derby, the fact Frank Lampard is their manager adds an extra wrinkle to Tuesday’s fixture, with the ex-Chelsea ace likely keen to show his former boss what he has learnt. He’s not doing too bad so far; in the Championship the Rams are in 6th but only 2 points off of the top 2, with 5 wins, 3 losses and a draw. In the EFL Cup, meanwhile, they are yet to concede a goal. The 1st round saw a 2-0 away win against Oldham, followed by an extra-impressive 4-0 rout of Hull at the KCOM Stadium in the 2nd. Obviously it is another thing entirely to rock up to Old Trafford, however troubled that one-time fortress might be, with Spreadex offering a Man United/Derby Goal Supremacy spread of 1.8-2 alongside a Total Goals spread of 3-3.2.
