In a race that seemingly no-one wants to win, and with not a lot of time left to win it, can Chelsea gain a top 4 leg-up when they travel to Man United this Sunday, at 4.30pm on Sky Sports Premier League? Both the Blues and United, alongside Arsenal (and to a lesser extent, Tottenham), seem determined to mess up their hopes of securing a spot in the Champions League next season. Currently Maurizio Sarri’s lot are in 4th place on 67 points, 3 behind Spurs, but 1 ahead of the Gunners and 3 ahead of their Sunday hosts.
Given Chelsea’s far superior goal difference, it means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can’t actually lead his lads into the top 4 this weekend. They can, however, pile the pressure on those sides above them, and ensure they still have a chance of reaching the continent’s premier club competition in 2019/20. Neither side has fared too well of late. The Blues have stumbled in the second half of April, losing at Liverpool in the middle of the month before being held to a 2-2 draw by Burnley over the Easter weekend; they’ve have more success in Europe, surviving a 2nd leg scare against Slavia Prague to book a Europa League semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt. United, meanwhile, might be regretting their decision to hire Solskjaer on a permanent basis. The club has secured just 2 wins in their last 9 games in all competitions, most recently suffering back-to-back losses against Everton and Man City. Eden Hazard, who may well be playing his final season in blue, goes into Sunday at a Super Mega PGM of 27-32, higher than his United counterpart Romelu Lukaku, who can be thankful he is even at 24-29 given he is without a goal since the start of March. Though United are in a bad way, they are slightly stronger at home, making this fixture a tough one to call. Spreadex, then, are offering a choice Man United/Chelsea Goal Supremacy spread of -0.1-0.1, alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.65-2.85 and a Bookings spread of 48-52.
