How will England’s U21s fare when they travel to Denmark at 6pm on BT Sport 2? Like their Gareth Southgate-led counterparts, Aidy Boothroyd’s side lost their last friendly 1-0 to Germany, something that doesn’t exactly bode well for this summer’s European Championships. The England U21s haven’t escaped the group stages of the competition since they were battered 4-0 by Germany in the 2009 final; the most recent tournament in 2015 saw them finish bottom of Group B, their only win coming against eventual winners Sweden. This time out their group is perhaps slightly more forgiving. England join hosts Poland, Slovakia and the aforementioned Swedes, with big questions over who will actually be selected. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse, all of whom have made appearances under Southgate, want to make the trip to Poland this June, though a senior World Cup qualifier against Scotland just before the competition complicates things. None of that trio will appear on Monday, however. Of the current squad, Tottenham’s Harry Winks is the most prominent figure, having featured 31 times this season for Mauricio Pochettino. As for Denmark, their prep didn’t get off to the best start either, the Danes losing 3-1 to Spain on Thursday night. They are also in arguably the toughest group at the European Championship, stuck with Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic. Yet they were pretty formidable in qualifying, winning 9 and drawing 1, while in 2015 they finished in 3rd. Both teams will be eager for the confidence boost heading into the summer, so Monday night’s match could be tight, with Spreadex offering an England/Denmark (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.1-0.3 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.65-2.85.
