Can West Ham escape their Premier League woes with an EFL Cup win at Wimbledon, at 7.45pm on Sky Sports Football? Manuel Pellegrini must be having a miserable time of it in east London. Having done a decent amount of business over the summer, spending around £80 million on the likes of Issa Diop, Lukasz Fabianski, Andriy Yarmolenko, Felipe Anderson and Lucas Perez, while signing Jack Wilshere for free, there was enough fresh blood at West Ham to generate a bit of goodwill heading into the new season. Well, that’ll certainly all be gone by now. Admittedly an opening game against Liverpool isn’t exactly an easy curtain raiser; however there are better ways to go about it than a godawful 4-0 loss. Their first game of 2018/19 at the Olympic Stadium was almost as bad in its own way, the Hammers relinquishing their 1-0 lead over Burnley to succumb to a 2-1 defeat. There were similar scenes this weekend, another opener from Marko Arnautovic – who picked up an injury in the 2nd half – given up as Arsenal ended up with a 3-1 win. Without the only man to score a competitive goal so far this season, Pellegrini needs someone else to step up on Tuesday. Javier Hernandez seems best positioned to do so, at a Super Mega PGM spread of 43-50, with Gunners-reject Lucas at 30-36, Yarmolenko at 26-31 and Anderson at 21-26. As for Wimbledon, they’ve had a bit of everything this month. Having narrowly avoided relegation from League One last season, things were looking good at the start of August, with the Dons picking up a 1-0 win over Fleetwood Town. Back-to-back goalless draws against Coventry and Barnsley followed with a 2-1 EFL Cup win at Portsmouth sandwiched in the middle, only for the side’s to struggle in their next 2 matches, losing against Walsall and Sunderland. Tuesday night should give the visitors an opportunity for a season-reboot, with Spreadex offering a West Ham/AFC Wimbledon (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 1-1.2 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.75-2.95.
