Can Leeds make their way back to the Championship peak with a win over fellow promotion-chasers West Brom on Friday? The Whites are in danger of messing it all up. For more than half the season so far Leeds occupied 1st place in the Championship; however now they sit in 3rd, trailing 2nd place Sheffield United on goal difference after a miserable run of form dragged them from pole position.
2018 ended on a sour note, a 7 game winning streak brought to a close with a loss to Hull. Since then they’ve fallen to Stoke, Norwich and, most recently on Tuesday, QPR, with an exceedingly late equaliser from Kalvin Phillips – as in, 11th minute of injury time late – saving their bacon at Middlesbrough. The Baggies, meanwhile, have spent the entire season in the promotion mix, without ever quite being able to break into the top 2 for any real length of time. This despite trailing only league leaders Norwich in terms of goals scored, West Brom bulging the back of the net 67 times in 34 games. They actually had the chance to narrow the gap at the top when they faced Sheffield United last Saturday, only for a 1-0 loss at the Hawthorns to leave them 4 points behind the Blades and 6 off of the Canaries. With each determined to not let the other out of their sight, West Brom have a tasty little duo up front; Jay Rodriquez has 18 goals to Dwight Gayle’s 16, the pair consistently compensating for the club’s weaknesses at the back. Rodriquez heads into Friday at a Super Mega PGM of 24-29, with Gayle close behind at 23-28. For Leeds the only person that can compare is Kemar Roofe who, on 14 goals, has double the amount of his closest teammate Pablo Hernandez. Sadly Roofe is injured, leaving Patrick Bamford at a Super Mega PGM of 34-40. Though both have seen recent slip-ups, the hosts are still better positioned, with Spreadex offering a Leeds/West Brom Goal Supremacy spread of 0.2-0.4 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.55-2.75.
