Match Preview - Southampton vs Manchester City, Sunday 30th November

Although Southampton performed well last season under former manager Mauricio Pochettino, following a mass exodus of key players at the start of the season and the manager himself, no-one could have predicted their current run of form. Yet come match-day the perennial overachievers will be sitting above last year’s champions in second place in the table to the latter’s 3rd.

Southampton have the stronger form coming into the match, but City will be playing with a renewed swagger after their mid-week win in Europe. Following City’s shock win against German giants Bayern Munich in the Champions League, complete with a hat-trick from Premier League top-scorer Sergio Aguero, City will fancy their chances, regardless of Southampton’s strong run.

Man City Away Goals Nov 14

On top of this comes the fact that City have scored 13 out of their 24 league goals away, and will be looking to increase that number when they arrive at St Mary’s. Yet Southampton’s form cannot be completely disregarded, and the previous four run-ins between the two teams have led to two draws and a win each.

Unsurprisingly, Spreadex clients fancy Aguero to score first, with plenty of bets on the 3/1 fixed odds. We’ve also clients paying careful attention to City’s high away goals rate, and seen a lot of buys on a spread of 1.4-1.6 on the Manchester side’s goals.

With Southampton on the better league run, and City buoyed by their European win, the match may come down to how well City can convert their post-win high into goals on Sunday.
