Can Liverpool start the final stretch of the season, and cling on to the top spot, with a win over Tottenham this Sunday, at 4.30pm on Sky Sports Premier League? It is an understatement to say the Reds’ hold on 1st place is precarious. Though they are 2 points ahead of Man City, the defending champs are one game behind, and have been in beast mode since they lost to Newcastle at the end of January.
On paper, at least, both sides have 2 potentially major stumbling blocks in 2018/19’s run in. For Liverpool, this weekend’s visit from Tottenham and mid-April’s fixture against Chelsea are arguably the most likely slip-ups (a season-closing game against a consistently surprising Wolves shouldn’t be discounted either). City, meanwhile, are staring at a potentially decisive pair of fixtures in the second half of April; on the 20th they host Spurs, with a Manchester derby at Old Trafford less than a week later on the 24th. Spurs, who were still dark horse contenders for the title at the start of 2019, completely blew their chances as February turned into March. Champions League success aside, they haven’t won a league game since February 10th, with losses to Burnley, Chelsea and Southampton joining a draw against Arsenal. That not only takes them out of the title race, but potentially leaves a top 4 finish in doubt. In 3rd on 61 points, they are only 1 ahead of Arsenal, 3 ahead of United and 4 ahead of Chelsea. There could be GOALS in this fixture if Harry Kane, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have anything to say about it; all 3 have scored 17 times in the league this season, and sit at Super Mega PGMs of 25-30, 33-39 and 45-52 respectively. The Reds have still only lost one league game this season. Combine that with their visitors’ recent wobble and Spreadex are offering a Liverpool/Tottenham Goal Supremacy spread of 0.9-1.1, alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.85-3.05.
