Can Burnley overcome Olympiakos and reach the Europa League proper for the first time in the club’s history, at 7.45pm on BT Sport 2? After hitting the heady heights of 7th in the Premier League last season, 2018/19 has been something of a comedown for the Clarets. A goalless draw against Southampton was fine, though not particularly promising; worse was their subsequent 3-1 defeat to Watford, a result bested by their 4-2 loss to the promoted Fulham last weekend. Somewhat better – well, up until recently – has been the club’s journey through the Europa League qualifiers. Entering in the 2nd round, they beat Aberdeen 4-2 over 2 legs, requiring extra time at home to do so. Onto the 3rd round and Burnley took on Istanbul Basaksehir, a disappointing draw on the road followed by another AET win at home. So, stumbling progress, but technically unbeaten. That was until Sean Dyche’s side flew to Greece, where a brace from Kostas Fortounis and a goal from Andreas Bouchalakis helped Olympiakos to victory. Crucially, however, Burnley did get an away goal thanks to a converted penalty from Chris Wood – who has a Super Mega PGM of 42-49 – just after the half hour mark. Olympiakos have looked pretty good in Europe so far, even if they haven’t exactly been challenged. Before brushing aside Burnley they brutalised Switzerland’s Luzern in the 3rd round, a 4-0 victory at home followed by a 3-1 win in the Swissporarena. Lazaros Christodoulopoulos and Miguel Angel Guerrero were the stars of that tie, scoring all 7 goals between them, and head into Thursday night at Super Mega PGMs of 9=12 and 19-23 respectively. Though it’s doable, Dyche and his lads face an uphill battle to get through the play-offs, with the hosts at a slender Burnley/Olympiakos Goal Supremacy spread of 0.15-0.35 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.35-2.55.Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle preview
