Sports Blog 04/12/2014: Preview - Hero World Challenge

And whilst the Hero World Challenge, hosted by Woods in Florida, is seen as part of golf’s ‘silly season’, Woods performance will be an indicator of the legend’s golfing future when the tournament begins today.

The tournament is comprised of 18 hand-picked top ranking (and available) players, including Woods, Henrik Stenson, Justin Rose and Bubba Watson, among others. Woods’ automatic placing as bookies short price favourite for most tournaments is over, and he embarrassingly is ranked joint-sixth favourite fixed odds betting at 12/1, alongside Jason Day.

Golfing analysts are undecided on the kind of performance Tiger Woods will put in. The fact Isleworth is his home course should give him an advantage, but this may be negated by his lack of competitive action in the second half of the year.

Woods is also debuting a new swing, inspired by his new ‘swing’ consultant Chris Como, so it remains to be seen what effect this new technique will have on his game.

As Woods’ languishes down at joint-sixth favourite, here at Spreadex Henrik Stenson, ranked second in the world, is odds-on favourite to win the tournament at fixed odds betting of 6/1. We have also seen a lot of bets buying Tiger Woods’ finishing position at a spread of 10.50-12 (i.e. client think he will finish 13 or worse), and plenty of money placed on the spread betting leaderboard (points awarded based on which position players finish in), with Justin Rose a client favourite at a spread of 19 - 22.

Whilst all eyes will be on Woods’ performance at the Hero World Challenge, our Spreadex clients are looking elsewhere for the winner.
