EPSOM 5.45

There’s been plenty of money around for Charlie Johnston’s URBAN SPRAWL, who made all at Goodwood on his latest start, for this 7f handicap but his trainer hasn’t got the greatest record with horses bidding to follow up a win. Since taking out a licence in his own name, Johnston’s last-time out winners are just five from 48 (10.4%) for a loss of £37.83 to a £1 level stake at SP. ON A SESSION looks a viable alternative. David & Nicola Barron’s veteran tends to perform best at this time of year, with his five wins all coming on turf from late April until late June. He finished a solid second to Boardman at Chester last time out and has made the frame in this race in each of the last two seasons. Buy at 11 in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or back him each-way at 6-1.

Recommendation: Back ON A SESSION in Epsom 5.45

CATTERICK 5.55

Paul Midgley tends to have his runners primed in the month of June and after a typically slow start to the season his horses are firing again. SHERDIL, well drawn in stall 2 for this 5f apprentice handicap, had a poor inside draw at Wetherby last month and can be forgiven his last-of-nine finish. That was his second start of the season and he scored at the third and fourth time of asking last term – on June 21st and July 1st – and the son of Dandy Man drops back down to Class 6 level for the first time since the first of those wins. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

Recommendation: Back SHERDIL in Catterick 5.55
