Andrew Mount's Racing Tips 11.07.23

Andrew heads to the main meeting at Pontefract on Tuesday (July 11th) where he has two recommended bets/trades.

PONTEFRACT 3.20

The Listed Pipalong Stakes has thrown up its share of surprise winners over the years, and it’s not always been a happy hunting ground for horses dropping in grade from Group 1 and Group 2 level. Four-year-olds also have a good record and those who finished fourth or worse on their latest outing, provided that was in Group 3, Listed or handicap company, are nine of the 43 since 2009 for a profit of £61.90 to a £1 level stake at SP. This angle has found seven of last nine winners and though drawing a blank last year, one of the two qualifiers ran second at 12-1. Four of them fit the bill this year – Al Agaila, Espressoo, Love Interest and ZENGA – with the last-named, who raced closer to the front end than ideal when a two-length seventh of 19 in the Kensington Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, much preferred of the quartet. Buy at 14 in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price (5-1 at the time of writing).

Recommendation: Back ZENGA in Pontefract 3.20

PONTEFRACT JOCKEYS

David O’Meara has endured a difficult few months, sending out just two winners from 67 runners in April (3% strike-rate, -£48.50 to a £1 level stake at SP), 11 from 119 in May (9.2%, -£52.88), 11 from 126 in June (8.7%, -£55.39) and three from 37 so far in July (8.1%, -£22.50). However, those three July winners have all come in the last 72 hours and the yard’s 14 runners in that period also included six placed efforts. O’Meara’s stable jockey DANNY TUDHOPE has live chances for his boss on IRON LION (2.45) and SUMMERGHAND (3.55), while one of his two other mounts – the William Knight-trained TIME SIGNATURE has been well supported overnight for the nursery (2.10). Buy TUDHOPE at 20 in the Spreadex Pontefract Jockeys market.

Recommendation: Buy DANNY TUDHOPE in PONTEFRACT JOCKEYS
