Andrew heads to Southwell (jumps) and Kempton (all-weather) for his two recommended bets/trades on Wednesday, January 17th.

SOUTHWELL 2.10

Point-to-pointer winner ISMAEL didn’t show a huge amount in his first few runs over hurdles but took a big step forward on his handicap debut at Market Rasen on Boxing Day, going down by just over two lengths at odds of 20-1. He jumped markedly out to his left on the right-handed track that day and could improve now returned to a left-handed venue. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

Recommendation: Back ISMAEL in Southwell 2.10

KEMPTON 7.00

Gay Kelleway’s INBETWEENUS was a big eyecatcher on her debut at Glorious Goodwood last summer, doing second best of the newcomers when a 20-1 fifth in a valuable 7f fillies’ maiden. Ornellaia, the winner of that race, is now rated 103 after finishing third in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes on her final juvenile outing while runner-up Classical Song, best of the newcomers, won on her next start and was awarded an official rating of 102 after her third in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket. Inbetweenus disappointed at Wolverhampton next time, blowing the start and never getting involved over the 8.6f trip before a better effort over 7f at Chelmsford where she went down by three lengths in a 28-1 fifth of 12 after meeting trouble. She was underwhelming in a maiden at Southwell earlier this month but the step back up to 1m on Tapeta didn’t suit and she looks interesting now back on Polytrack and dropped to 7f for her handicap debut. The first-time cheekpieces are another signal of intent and her opening mark of 64 could be on the generous side. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

Recommendation: Back INBETWEENUS in Kempton 7.00
