Andrew has two recommended bets/trades at the evening Flat meetings at Windsor and Leopardstown on Thursday, August 17th.
There isn’t a great deal of early pace on offer in this 6f Racing League handicap, despite the big field, and it looks a good opportunity for APHELIOS to return to winning ways. Mick Appleby’s four-year-old was one of several I backed among the low draws in the Stewards’ Cup but I called the draw bias wrong and his stall 1 berth turned out to be a big disadvantage. He ran well in the first-time blinkers to finish an 80-1 ninth of 27 that day and his stall 3 draw should be useful tonight. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back APHELIOS in Windsor 5.30
The consistent RAMPAGE gained a deserved first success over 1m1f at Leopardstown last month, clocking a useful time in the process, and can follow up in a slightly better grade over the same track and trip tonight. The four-year-old’s two other Leopardstown outings saw him finish a 10-1 neck third in a field of 13 and an 8-1 third of 22. His patient running style isn’t always ideal for this venue but there should be plenty of pace on from the runners in stalls 4, 5 and 6 and he’s nicely drawn (stall 7, once adjusted for the non-runner) to track it. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market.
Recommendation; Back RAMPAGE in Leopardstown 7.35
