DO YOUR JOB found Grade 2 handicap chase company tookhot when only seventh of 11 in the Old Roan Chase at Aintree on his reappearance and looks interesting now down in trip/class for this 2m handicap chase. His record in Graded company stands at 422F222165 (1-10), compared to 52112115 (4-8) at a lower level, improving to 1121 (3-4) over today’s trip. That latest effort was also his first since a wind operation and first for Lucinda Russell and may have been needed. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

CHELTENHAM 4.05

There are two horses I want to side with in this 2m novices’ handicap hurdle – BELGOPRINCE and EN AVANT – and with them numbered 13 and 15 respectively on the racecard a buy of DOUBLE NUMBER OF WINNER with Spreadex looks warranted. BELGOPRINCE represents Tony Martin who won this with the well backed Quick Jack (15-8f favourite) in 2013 and came within a head of landing last year’s renewal with 20-1 shot Explosive Boy.

The six-year-old is an eight-race maiden over hurdles but only went down by a nose when a 25-1 second of 26 in a similar contest at Leopardstown on Boxing Day 2021 – his last run in this sphere – and can run off the same mark despite having improved on the Flat subsequently. Olly Murphy’s EN AVANT bombed out in the Fixed Brush Series Final when bidding for a hat-trick at Worcester last time but Sean Bowen, on board for his two wins, was replaced by a conditional rider and the tactics were changed.

That race has worked out well, with the runner-up (Ikarak), fourth (Huelgoat), fifth (Woodie Flash) and Manimole (in fourth place when unseating his jockey) all scoring at the next time of asking. The seven-year-old fits the profile of recent winners of this contest and won’t mind if conditions ease.
