Andrew heads to a windy Yarmouth for his two recommended bets/trades on Tuesday, September 19th.
Strong winds are forecast at Yarmouth today, gusting at up to 47mph, and it looks like it will be into their faces in the straight, putting front-runners at a big disadvantage. I first cottoned on to the importance of wind bias at seaside tracks when attending Yarmouth’s meeting on May 11th 2011. Racegoers had to lean into the wind at an angle of 45 degrees if they wanted to walk around safely and there were one or two ‘funny’ results, with winners at 25-1 and 12-1. The 12-1 shot was hold-up performer Watch Chain, whose only other win on turf also came in a headwind-affected race at Yarmouth. Today, I’m especially hopeful that we’ll see one or two outsiders win in the novice races, as the market leaders with experience will probably break on terms, race prominently and get no cover from the wind whereas the big-priced newcomers, who usually miss a beat at the start, will find themselves able to get cover as a result. A buy of YARMOUTH STARTING PRICES with Spreadex looks a good investment.
Recommendation: Buy YARMOUTH SPs
I’m keen to oppose likely pace angle TALAMANCA in this 5f handicap, as he’s hard to win with and will get no cover from the wind. However, he’s already on the drift and the best value might be to back the John Butler-trained FRISKY. The four-year-old was having her first run for the yard when last of four at Leicester last week but that run, her first since April, would have been needed. She ran with great credit over this trip last September on her only previously course visit, doing fourth best of those to come from off the pace when eighth of 15 (beaten by less than three lengths) and she’s 12lb lower today. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back FRISKY in Yarmouth 6.15
