Andrew returns from a short break with two recommended bets/trades over the sticks at Wincanton on Thursday, October 19th.

WINCANTON 1.30

In the past ten years, backing Chris Gordon-trained runners at Wincanton would have found 19 winners from 107 bets for a profit of 44.83 to a £ level stake at SP. He has proved especially effective in handicap hurdles in recent years, with seven winners from 21 runners since 2018 for a profit of £32.33. PRESENTING A QUEEN, unbeaten in her two previous seasonal debut runs, disappointed in a Class 2 contest at Cheltenham when we last saw her in the spring but the six-month break and drop down not Class 4 level can see her regain the winning thread. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

Recommendation: Back PRESENTING A QUEEN in Wincanton 1.30

WINCANTON 3.45

Wincanton is a track that typically favours early pace but there’s so much of it in this 1m7f handicap hurdler that it’s hard to escape the conclusion that the race will be set up for a closer. KINGSTON SUNFLOWERSTORMIN CROSSGALESNO NO TONIC and PLANET LEGEND are all likely to be vying for the early lead and that’s before we’ve discussed the likes of part-time pacesetters HICONICINCA DE LAFAYETTERATHMACKNEE and JOHN BETJEMAN.

There are only two likely hold-up horses in the ten-runner line-up – MAMOON STAR and KITESURFER, though the last-named has only had two runs, so it’s too early to label him with a particular run style. The Fergal O’Brien-trained MAMOON STAR was beaten by a long way on soft going at Ludlow in the spring when we last saw him but better ground and the first-time tongue-tie could help him return to the sort of form that saw him place in a Listed bumper at Cheltenham early last year. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

Recommendation: Back MAMOON STAR in Wincanton 3.45
