Andrew heads to the Flat meetings at Ayr and Newbury for his two recommended bets/trades on Friday, September 22nd.

AYR 3.25

David O’Meara was among the winners at Ayr on Thursday and he can land the Bronze Cup with the consistent ASCOT ADVENTURE. Two of the five-year-old’s three wins have come in September and the recent rain has arrived in time. He was only fourth of nine at Musselburgh last weekend, but a strong pace is the key and, since making his debut for his current yard, his two runs on good/softer turf in big fields have resulted in a third of 16 (6f, good to soft) and a third of 17 (7f, good to soft), both at York. He ran third on his only previous visit to Ayr and looks worth buying in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market. Fixed odds punters have the option of backing him each-way.

Recommendation: Back ASCOT ADVENTURE in Ayr 3.25

NEWBURY 3.35

This 1m conditions contest has thrown up some shock results over the years and, in the past 15 renewals, we could have bet all 95 runners and made a profit of £27.55 to a £1 level stake at SP. Richard Hannon saddles two of the market leaders – 2-1 shot HOUSTONN and 7-2-1 chance BLUE LEMONS – but this race has not been a happy hunting ground for the yard, who are 0-10 in the past ten renewals with nine of those going off at single-figure prices. Throw in heavy ground and the race again looks ripe for an upset, with a buy of SP OF WINNER the recommendation: Marcus Tregoning has a good record in this contest and fixed odds punters might want to side with his newcomer MUFID, who won’t have an issue with ground conditions on breeding.

Recommendation: Buy SP OF WINNER in Newbury 3.35
