YORK – RACECARD No1s

Several of today’s RACECARD No1s at York look vulnerable and it could be worth selling the market at 45 with Spreadex. EQUILATERAL has been well touted in some quarters ahead of his belated handicap debut in the 1.55 but his patient running style is not ideal and he’s been unplaced in both previous course outings. BALLYMOUNT BOY is the form pick in the Acomb Stakes (2.25) but he’s yet to race on fast ground and he’s not sure to handle on breeding – progeny of Camacho are just 61 from 927 (6.6%) on the Flat on time-based good to firm or firm ground for a huge loss of £515.21 to a £1 level stake at SP. Last-time out winners have a poor recent record in the Great Voltigeur Stakes (3.00), as do horses dropping in trip from 1m6f+, and this race smacks of an afterthought for the Queen’s Vase winner. I’m quite keen on MOSTAHDAF in the 3.35 but we could have a saver on him in the Juddmonte Stakes (3.35) if we’re going well by this stage. Front-runner SOLENT GETAWAY (4.10) has only ever won in fields of seven or fewer runners and will struggle to dominate, while BOBSLEIGH doesn’t look well drawn in the 5.20.

OISIN MURPHY is seven from 34 in handicaps at York’s Ebor Festival for a profit of £50.50 to a £1 level stake at SP and he has a fine chance on market leader INTRINSIC BOND in the opener today (1.55). The six-year-old has run two cracking races at Ascot since joining Michael Wigham, recording his two best RPRs (Racing Post Ratings) and he has the prominent running style so effective in York sprints. Murphy also has a live chance in the 2m handicap on AZTEC EMPIRE (4.10), while RADIO GOO GOO could pick up points in the 5f fillies’ handicap (4.45) if adopting her usual prominent role. THE FOXES (3.35) is the outsider of four in the Juddmonte Stakes but only has to beat one rival to gather some points and it’s not impossible to see him winning if Paddington and Mostahdaf take each other on from a long way out.
