Andrew heads to Huntingdon and the Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park for his two recommended bets/trades  on Thursday, January 25th

HUNTINGDON 2.00

SAFE DESTINATION has struggled to back up his two wins, pulling up at Warwick in November a month after his Uttoxeter success and adding another ‘p’ to his form figures at Taunton last time when attempting to follow up November’s Ludlow victory. Nigel Twiston-Davies’ six-year-old has exhibited the ‘OXO’ pattern (good run, bad run, good run etc) since switched to fences, recording form figures of P1P1P (2-5), twice bouncing back from non-completions to score, and might be able to repeat the trick today. Buy at 16 in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price (7-2).

Recommendation: Back SAFE DESTINATION in Huntingdon 2.00

GOWRAN PARK 2.50

In the past ten years, backing the top three in the weights in the Thyestes Chase would have found six winners from 30 bets for a profit of £24.00 to a £1 level stake at SP, with those rested for between three and six weeks since their latest start winning six from 23 (+£31.00). LONGHOUSE POET, second in the weights, would have needed his comeback outing in November when down the field in a handicap hurdle at Punchestown and also looked like he’d improve for the run when fifth of six at Tramore in a Grade 3 chase on New Year’s Day. J J Slevin’s veteran has won five of his 15 starts below Grade 2 level when returned to the track within six weeks of his previous outing and he’s worth a punt at a generous price. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or back him each-way at 22-1.

Recommendation: Back LONGHIUSE POET in Gowran Park 2.50
