The fastest ground is on the stands’ side today according to the GoingStick and her stall 31 draw could be advantageous. More significantly, she’s joined in-form Ed Dunlop from Ben Pauling, has the assistance of leading apprentice Billy Loughnane and is down in grade after contesting two Group 1s, a Group 2 and a Listed contest on her latest four starts. She was a winner in Group 2 company for Harry Eustace last term before making the switch to Pauling’s yard, is unbeaten in three starts on good to firm or faster going and is two from two in handicap company.

I’m expecting the Derby to be the key to the King Edward VII Stakes today but perhaps DUBAI MILE, ninth to Auguste Rodin that day, will be the one to emerge victorious, rather than runner-up KING OF STEEL. Charlie Johnston’s son of Roaring Lion ran a fine Derby trial over an inadequate trip in the 2000 Guineas on his comeback, finishing a 33-1 fifth of 14, and blew his Derby chance by doing too much too soon. He fared second best of the prominent racers at Epsom and wasn’t helped by taking the inside route on a day all the winners were swooping late/wide. The smaller field will suit and he can be bought at 9 in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or backed in the fixed odds betting at 14.
