Andrew Mount's Tips 23.06.23

Andrew made a a big profit with his buy of DOUBLE DRAW OF WINNER (market made up at 42) in the 3.05 at Ascot yesterday and has three recommended bets/trades on Friday, June 23rd.

ASCOT 4.20

TAHIYRA lost her 100% record when runner-up to Mawj in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and, though regaining the winning thread in the Irish equivalent at the Curragh, she may have been flattered by racing close the front end on that pace-favouring track. Drying ground might not be ideal today and the Dermot Weld yard is not the force of old. Since racing resumed after lockdown, they’ve sent out 116 winners from 1085 Flat runners for a loss of £389.28 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 130.75). Weld hasn’t won a Group race in Britian since 2017 and I’m going to sell TAHIYRA to small stakes at 34 in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. Fixed odds punters might want to side with COMHRA, a good third to Tahiyra against the pace bias in the Irish 1,000 last time.

Recommendation: Oppose TAHIYRA in Ascot 4.20

ASCOT 5.00

POLLY POTT looks worth a buy at 2 in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market for the Sandringham Stakes – a fillies’ handicap over the straight mile – at Royal Ascot today (fixed odds punters can back her each-way at 33-1). The fastest ground is on the stands’ side today according to the GoingStick and her stall 31 draw could be advantageous. More significantly, she’s joined in-form Ed Dunlop from Ben Pauling, has the assistance of leading apprentice Billy Loughnane and is down in grade after contesting two Group 1s, a Group 2 and a Listed contest on her latest four starts. She was a winner in Group 2 company for Harry Eustace last term before making the switch to Pauling’s yard, is unbeaten in three starts on good to firm or faster going and is two from two in handicap company.

Recommendation: Back POLLY POTT in Ascot

ASCOT 5.35

I’m expecting the Derby to be the key to the King Edward VII Stakes today but perhaps DUBAI MILE, ninth to Auguste Rodin that day, will be the one to emerge victorious, rather than runner-up KING OF STEEL. Charlie Johnston’s son of Roaring Lion ran a fine Derby trial over an inadequate trip in the 2000 Guineas on his comeback, finishing a 33-1 fifth of 14, and blew his Derby chance by doing too much too soon. He fared second best of the prominent racers at Epsom and wasn’t helped by taking the inside route on a day all the winners were swooping late/wide. The smaller field will suit and he can be bought at 9 in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or backed in the fixed odds betting at 14.

Recommendation: Back DUBAI MILE in Ascot 5.35
