Andrew heads to Sandown’s evening Flat meeting for his two recommended bets/trades on Wednesday, July 26th.
MADAME FENELLA caught the eye at Leicester last time, doing well to finish a 15-2 third of ten in a 6f fillies’ handicap on a track that is rarely kind to her patient running style. The 16-1 winner made all and the only other hold-up horse to beat her was runner-up/5-2 favourite Annie Law, a progressive three-year-old. Madame Fenella has yet to win on turf but has run several other good races in defeat, including another second-best-of-the-closers effort when fifth of 16 at Haydock in April. Derek Shaw’s four-year-old is likely to be finishing to good effect granted a strong gallop and it will be disappointing if she isn’t in the first three. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back MADAME FENALLA in Doncaster 2.30
I was tempted by HARRY’s HALO in this seven-runner handicap but at a more attractive price I’m going to chance Karl Burke’s GEORGIAVA. The daughter of Havana Grey improved for wind surgery to win at Brighton/Carlisle last year before a solid 22-1 fourth of 17 in the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes at Newmarket. She could only finish an 11-length fifth of seven at Carlisle earlier this month on her belated reappearance, but she started at 14-1, the run would have been needed and the patient tactics employed were far from helpful at that pacesetters’ paradise. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back GEORGIAVA in Doncaster 3.05
RANGER THUNDERBOLT showed promise in mid-division over 1m at Kempton on his first two starts last year, finishing a 28-1 sixth of 13 and 28-1 fifth of nine, and was sent off at 80-1 for a 1m2f novice contest at Lingfield just before Christmas. The son of Dragon Pulse wasn’t helped by racing on the inside rail that day and shaped better than his ten-length seventh suggested. He caused an 18-1 surprise at Newbury on his seasonal/handicap debut earlier this month and can follow up at the same venue tonight. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back RANGER THUNDERBOLT in Newbury 8.15
