Bets Of The Week

bets-of-the-week-020523-landing-page-header

One of the major clay events before the French Open continues this week on Amazon Prime with the Madrid Open. Closer to home, there are huge clashes at the top of the league as Arsenal try to get their title challenge back on course whilst Manchester United and Brighton look to book themselves European football next season.

On Friday, we have the Guineas Festival at Newmarket to look forward to as plenty of high-quality horses head to flat racing’s headquarters for the three day event.

FOOTBALL – ARSENAL v CHELSEA

A quite unusual London derby will take place this evening between Arsenal and Chelsea with the former still harbouring hopes of a title and the latter only avoiding a relegation battle thanks to the incompetence of the sides below them.

Frank Lampard has done little to arrest Chelsea’s slide in form and the visitors are 24/5 to win or 16/5 to get a draw. Arsenal meanwhile are looking to end a mini slump and are 3/5 to get back to winning ways in front of their own fans.

Gabriel Jesus has been boosted to score anytime to 11/8 from 6/5 whilst the Brazilian is 6/4 to have two or more shots on target this evening in a must-win game for the Gunners.

TENNIS – MADRID OPEN

The Madrid Open enters the business end of the event and on the men’s side of the draw there is a clear favourite in 5/6 shot Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard is the number one seed and beat Alexander Zverev in the 2022 final with the pair meeting today in the fourth round.

On the women’s side of the draw there is an even stronger favourite with Poland’s Iga Swiatek 4/7 to land her first title at La Caja Magica in the absence of last year’s champion Ons Jabeur who withdrew due to injury. The 2021 edition of the event went the way of Aryna Sabalenka who is 3/1 to land another title with the Belarussian a huge 1/14 favourite in her quarter final with Mayar Sherif.

FOOTBALL – BRIGHTON v MANCHESTER UNITED

Liverpool and Manchester City are also in action this week, but the other Premier League match worth highlighting is the FA Cup semi-final rematch between Brighton and Manchester United.

The Seagulls were unlucky to taste defeat at Wembley but they are even money to grab three points over United on Thursday and do the double over Erik ten Hag’s side. The Dutchman watched on as his side threw away a two goal lead against Spurs last week, but the Red Devils will certainly have their backers at 11/4 whilst the draw is priced at 29/10.

Whilst their clash in the capital may have finished in a 0-0 stalemate, our traders fancy goals in this one with the total goals spread at 3.1-3.3 whilst on the supremacy, Brighton are favoured at 0.4-0.6. We expect to see plenty of sellers on that particular spread from the North West region on Thursday.

RACING – GUINEAS FESTIVAL

The flat is back and in full swing with one of the early markers in the season beginning on Friday as the Guineas Festival gets underway at Newmarket. The 2000 Guineas headlines the meeting on Saturday with Auguste Rodin the 7/4 favourite whilst it is the turn of the girls on Sunday in the 1000 Guineas with Dermot Weld’s Tahiyra currently leading the market at 9/4.

We have an antepost market for the big two races at the weekend and Friday will see previous Group 1 winners Adayar and Native Trail head to post for a card that features two Group 2 races. Before that, there is plenty of action on both sides of the Irish Sea and you can bet across the cards below.
